Alvarez was looking to bounce back from a lopsided loss to Donald Cerrone, and capture his first UFC win. Melendez on the other hand was looking to return to the win column after a submission loss to Anthony Pettis in a failed bid for the lightweight championship.

On Friday, it was revealed that Indianapolis Colts defensive end Arthur Jones has been suspended for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Carlos Condit is set to return to the Octagon for the first time since his memorable UFC title fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 in January. Following the split-decision loss, Condit stated he was not interested in fighting unless they were big fights, such as a rematch with Lawler for the welterweight belt.

Thursday afternoon, it was announced that George Sullivan had been pulled from his ‘UFC on FOX 20’ scrap against Hector Urbina due to a “potential compliance issue” with USADA. The UFC released a statement on the situation, revealing that Sullivan was pulled after voluntarily disclosing the list of supplements he took, one of which apparently raised a red flag with USADA.

Saturday evening in Chicago, Illinois, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will look to bounce back from her UFC 196 loss to Miesha Tate as she fights Valentina Shevchenko in the main event of the televised card. The fight will be Holm’s first since losing the title back in March, and one she hopes will open the door to a future rematch with Miesha Tate.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, who is currently slated to fight Nate Diaz in a welterweight rematch at UFC 202 on August 20th. Now, ahead of that fight, Alvarez has asked the UFC for the winner of the fight for a “big pay-per-view” fight.
