A key women’s bantamweight bout between former title holder Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko served as the main event of tonight’s UFC on FOX 20 card in Chicago. Round one begins and Holm starts things off with a leg kick. Shevchenko replies with a leg kick of her own. Holm with a nice front kick to the thigh of Valentina. Both women exchange leg kicks. Holm misses with a head kick. She follows up with a nice leg kick. Shevchenko with a leg kick and then a right hook. Holm with a brutal right hand that drops Valentina. Shevchenko pops right back to her feet and lands a leg kick on Holly. Holm with a jab and Shevchenko responds with a short right hook. Holly is pressing the action here. Nice jab from Valentina. Both fighters exchange kicks. Valentina presses forward and lands a takedown. Holly gets right back to her feet and they clinch against the cage. Nice knee to the body from Holm and another. She is peppering Valentina with knees. They break and round one comes to an end.

A heavyweight bout between Francis Ngannou (8-1 MMA) and Bojan Mihajlovic (10-4) took place on tonight’s UFC on FOX 20 main card in Chicago. Round one begins and Bohan misses with a leg kick to start. Ngannou takes the center of the octagon. Bohan is using movement to try and find his way inside on the much larger Ngannou. Mihajlovic lands a leg kick. He misses with a right hand but scores with a shot to the body. Ngannou scores with back to back left hands. Bojan is down. Ngannou with hammers fists and this one is all over.

A strawweight fight between Felice Herrig and Kailin Curran kicked off tonight’s UFC on FOX 20 main card in Chicago. Round one begins and Herrig opens up with a front kick that misses. Felice connects with a jab. Curran responds with a kick to the body. Felice with a nice combination. She scores with a nice left kick to the body. Curran lands a jab and follows up with a high kick that partially lands. Felice grabs a hold of Kailin’s leg and takes the fight to the ground. Herrig immediately takes the back of Curran and sinks in a rear-naked choke. Curran tries to defend but it is deep. Kailan is forced to tap.

At UFC on FOX 20 tonight, Holly Holm will look to rebound from losing her UFC women’s bantamweight championship to Miesha Tate, as she faces Valentina Shevchenko. Ahead of the fight, many aren’t giving Shevchenko much of a chance against the former champ. During a Q&A Friday afternoon, UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk revealed that she actually has 3 losses to Shevchenko.

Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen made headlines once again recently when it was revealed that he was randomly tested by USADA. Sonnen, who is currently suspended by the NSAC until later this summer, has remained adamant about the fact that he is retired, however his recent USADA drug test has left many wondering if ‘The American Gangster’ will return to the Octagon when his suspension is up.

Yoel Romero may currently be suspended after failing a USADA-administered drug test, however ‘Soldier Of God’ believes he is still the rightful #1 contender at middleweight. Back at UFC 194, Romero and Jacare Souza squared off in what many believed to be a middleweight #1 contender fight. Romero won the bout via split decision, with many thinking that the fight should have been scored for Jacare Souza.

Back in the co-main event of UFC 196, Holly Holm looked to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight championship against Miesha Tate. The fight was Holm’s first title defense. Unfortunately for ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Tate was able to pull off the late-fight upset in the 5th round, and defeat Holm via rear naked choke in the 5th round. Since it was announced that Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones failed drug tests prior to, and after, UFC 200 there has been much speculation as to how long both men would be suspended, and whether or not they would face fines. Mark Hunt, who fought Lesnar at UFC 200, also demanded 100% of Lesnar’s whopping $2.5 million disclosed salary for the event for fighting someone who failed a drug test before the fight, and the night of the fight.

Alvarez was looking to bounce back from a lopsided loss to Donald Cerrone, and capture his first UFC win. Melendez on the other hand was looking to return to the win column after a submission loss to Anthony Pettis in a failed bid for the lightweight championship.
