At the end of 2015, talks of a Ronda Rousey-Cris Cyborg superfight were at an all time high. At UFC 194, that all changed when Rousey was knocked out by Holly Holm. With Rousey on an indefinite hiatus from the Octagon, talks of a potential superfight with Cris Cyborg seemed to fade away. However, after Cyborg made her successful UFC debut at UFC 198 in May, the Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion began to call for a fight with Rousey once again.

Back in the co-main event of UFC 196, Holly Holm looked to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight championship against Miesha Tate. The fight was Holm’s first title defense. Unfortunately for ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Tate was able to pull off the late-fight upset in the 5th round, and defeat Holm via rear naked choke in the 5th round. Since it was announced that Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones failed drug tests prior to, and after, UFC 200 there has been much speculation as to how long both men would be suspended, and whether or not they would face fines. Mark Hunt, who fought Lesnar at UFC 200, also demanded 100% of Lesnar’s whopping $2.5 million disclosed salary for the event for fighting someone who failed a drug test before the fight, and the night of the fight.

Prior to Carlos Condit’s UFC 195 welterweight scrap with Robbie Lawler, the former interim champ revealed that it could be his last fight before retirement. Condit lost the fight via controversial split decision, putting his future in the Octagon in question.

Back at UFC 188, Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez squared off in the co-main event of the highly anticipated card. Alvarez was looking to bounce back from a lopsided loss to Donald Cerrone, and capture his first UFC win. Melendez on the other hand was looking to return to the win column after a submission loss to Anthony Pettis in a failed bid for the lightweight championship.

With just 2 days to go until UFC 200, UFC pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones found himself pulled from the historic card after being notified of a potential USADA anti-doping violation. Ultimately, Anderson Silva took Jones’ place against Daniel Cormier on the card, and Jones was handed a provisional suspension until his hearing with the NSAC.

If it wasn’t bad enough that Jon Jones is facing a two-year suspension from fighting in the UFC for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation, add in a sibling to the situation. On Friday, it was revealed that Indianapolis Colts defensive end Arthur Jones has been suspended for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Carlos Condit is set to return to the Octagon for the first time since his memorable UFC title fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 in January. Following the split-decision loss, Condit stated he was not interested in fighting unless they were big fights, such as a rematch with Lawler for the welterweight belt.
