VIDEO | Andre Ward on boxing vs. MMA and the skills of Nick and Nate Diaz
Russell Ess - November 21, 2016
Andre Ward is now being argued as the number 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world after defeating Sergey Kovalev over the weekend. Ward won a unanimous decision over Kovalev in Las Vegas, Nevada to take three light heavyweight world title belts from the Russian boxer. However, there has been a bit of controversy in the extremely close fight as the 114-113 score from all three judges in favor of Ward could be argued to go the other way.
VIDEO | Brock Lesnar gets dominated by Goldberg in one minute at WWE Survivor Series
Tom Taylor - November 21, 2016
Yeah, we know, pro wrestling isn’t real. But Brock Lesnar is a former UFC heavyweight champion, and when he gets dominated in just over a minute by a 49 year old, we’re going to talk about it – whether it’s real or not. That’s precisely what happened on Sunday night, when Lesnar stepped into the WWE ring with Bill Goldberg. Moments into the match, Goldberg knocked the former UFC champ to the mat. As a bewildered Lesnar returned to his feet, Goldberg speared him back down onto the canvas. Then came a second spear, and a Jackhammer for the win. It was a downright domination, and it all went down in less time than it takes to warm up a Hot Pocket.
Stephen Thompson on Possible Woodley Rematch: We Have to Settle This
Tom Taylor - November 21, 2016
One of the most memorable moments of UFC 205 was the co-main event, which saw welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and surging challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson pummel one another to a majority draw. With this result, Woodley retained his title – though the identity of the world’s best welterweight is somewhat murky as a result. The draw, after all, didn’t really tell us who of Woodley and Thompson was the better fighter. It’s for that reason that Thompson, who is currently recovering from this unforgettable welterweight war, believes he deserves an immediate rematch with Woodley.
Dan Henderson: Khabib Nurmagomedov would "beat the piss out of" Conor McGregor
Tom Taylor - November 21, 2016
Earlier this month, in the main event of UFC 205, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor thumped Eddie Alvarez to claim the UFC lightweight title. In doing so, he became the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two divisions concurrently. Having achieved this history-making win, McGregor’s hype reached new and unprecedented levels, as he scaled pound-for-pound lists and found himself being mentioned in greatest-of-all-time debates that used to be reserved for names like Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Fedor Emelianenko and Jon Jones.

Luke Rockhold opens up on recent injury, targets March return
Tom Taylor - November 21, 2016
The next UFC fight card on the horizon is UFC Fight Night 101, which will emanate from sun-soaked Melbourne, Australia this coming Saturday (November 26). The card will be headlined by a middleweight contender showdown between Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson – but this is not the headliner fans in Australia originally anticipated. Instead, the UFC’s return to Melbourne was initially supposed to be headlined by a middleweight bout between former champion Luke Rockhold and top-ranked contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The pair have met once before, back in 2011, and this time around, their clash could well have produced the next middleweight title challenger.

Tom Taylor - November 20, 2016
The UFC’s latest trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland has now come and gone, and it was a very exciting card. Unfortunately, we lost one of the card’s most anticipated fights on the eve of battle, as fan favorite flyweight Ian McCall was forced out of a planned bout with Ireland’s Neil “2 Tap” Seery with an illness. The illness, which began before McCall undertook his weight cut, was severe enough to hospitalize him. Despite the last minute cancellation of his fight – which was intended to be his retirement bout – Seery was all class, and wished McCall a speedy recovery.

Former UFC featherweight title challenger Chan Sung Jung is quickly closing in on the end of the two years of mandatory military service he was required to serve as a citizen of South Korea. Jung was most recently seen in action at UFC 163 in May of 2012, where he suffered a fourth-round TKO loss to Jose Aldo in his bid for the featherweight title. Prior to the setback, the Korean standout had scored three-straight stoppage wins in a row which included victories over Dustin Poirier, Mark Hominick and Leonard Garcia.
Michael Page blames 'negative' Fernando Gonzalez for forgettable fight at Bellator 165
Tom Taylor - November 20, 2016
Michael “Venom” Page – also known simply as “MVP” – has long stood out as one of Bellator’s most exciting young stars. Look no further than his recent, skull-smashing knockout of Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos for the reasons behind this reputation. When Page stepped onto the canvas with Fernando Gonzalez at Bellator 165 in San Jose, California, however, his reputation for excitement was dealt a pretty severe blow. In a performance that was reminiscent of Anderson Silva’s lackluster defeats of Thales Leites and Demian Maia, Page showboated, danced and generally failed to engage over the course of the three-round fight. Though he clearly possessed the ability to out-strike his foe, his refusal to put the pedal to the medal resulted in a fight that was fairly difficult to score – as evidenced by the judges’ split verdict.

On Saturday afternoon (Saturday night in Europe), the UFC returned to Belfast, Northern Ireland for the first time since UFC 72, all the way back in June of 2007. They did so with UFC Fight Night 99. While the highlight of the card was undeniably Gegard Mousasi’s score settling destruction of former foil Uriah Hall, no fighter’s performance generated as big a fan response as Russian-born Irishman Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov’s.
Demian Maia Responds to Kamaru Usman's Callout
Tom Taylor - November 20, 2016
On Saturday night, the UFC touched down in sunny Sao Paolo Brazil with UFC Fight Night 100. Over the course of the 12-fight card, we witnessed a handful of truly impressive performances. One of the most applause-worthy of the bunch was Kamaru Usman’s three-round domination of the highly regarded Warlley Alves. Relying not just on his incredible grappling skill, but also on a vastly-improved standup game, Usman dominated his Brazilian foe from bell-to-bell, earning himself a sound, unanimous decision win as a result. These days, fighters are often criticized for their reluctance to take advantage of the opportunity to issue callouts in the wake of big wins. This was not a problem for Usman. After a brief discussion of his performance with Octagon-side commentator Jon Anik, Usman attempted to earn himself a big step up in competition with a callout of the welterweight division’s third-ranked fighter, grappling wizard Demian Maia. Not only did he assure he could defeat Maia, he also promised that he’d stop him in the first round.

Tom Taylor - November 20, 2016
Last night, the UFC touched down in sunny Sao Paulo, Brazil with its 100th Fight Night card. While the card lacked any real back-and-forth wars (Bellator had us covered in that regard) it did produce some fantastic finishes. As such, the UFC elected not to dish out a Fight of the Night bonus, and award two extra Performance of the Night bonuses instead.
