Chris Taylor - April 10, 2017

Coach claims Anthony Johnson’s post-MMA career ‘has to do with football’ Anthony “Rumble” Johnson shocked fans by announcing his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts following his second-round submission loss to Daniel Cormier at this past weekend’s UFC 210 pay-per-view event in Buffalo, New York.

Following Anthony Johnson’s performance against Daniel Cormier in the UFC light heavyweight title rematch at UFC 210, “Rumble” announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts. With going in with a strange game plan and not listening to his coaches in the opening round, many fans including Johnson’s own corner were scratching their heads when “Rumble” decided to try and wrestle with Cormier instead of unleashing his vicious knockout power that he is known for, especially in the opening rounds.

Jon Jones recommends taking sex pills because they're 'f**king great' and 'awesome'

Russell Ess - April 10, 2017

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently sitting on the sidelines with his one-year suspension for testing positive for banned substances. Jones tested positive for the banned substances clomiphene and letrozole and was notified days before his scheduled UFC 200 title unification bout against champion Daniel Cormier. Jones claimed that the positive test for the banned substances was due to taking a tainted sexual performance pill. However, arbitrators in his hearing ruled Jones responsible for testing positive saying that he did not do his research for checking what the pill consisted of and if any of it was on the banned substances list.

Joe Rogan gets 'drunk on a plane,' reminisces on good times with Mike Goldberg

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has had plenty of company at the broadcast booth during his last few assignments, as he has been accompanied by some combination of Jon Anik, Dominick Cruz, and Daniel Cormier. Until the beginning of this year, however, Rogan generally only shared the broadcast desk with one man: Mike Goldberg. Goldberg, however, was let go by the UFC in late 2017, as part of a string of layoffs effected by the promotion’s new owners, WME-IMG. The long-time play-by-play man did his last broadcast at December’s UFC 207, with nothing in the way of fanfare or thanks.

Daniel Cormier trashes Jon Jones' brother, makes fun of his size

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

On Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight Daniel Cormier defended his strap with a second-round submission win over Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Shortly thereafter, the champ took the opportunity to engage in brief verbal battles with two of the light heavyweight division’s top contenders: streaking British striker Jimi Manuwa, and former champion Jon Jones – the only man he’s lost to and by far his biggest rival. Apparently, Cormier also exchanged a few words with Jones’ brother, Arthur, a former defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts and current free agent in the NFL. At the UFC 210 post-fight press conference, Cormier addressed this brief exchange with his rival’s brother, and commented on the football players physique.

Dominick Cruz: Jon Jones probably felt like he was "getting choked" watching Cormier defend title

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier defended his title with a second-round submission of the dangerous Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. As he did so, his biggest rival Jon Jones – a man who never lost the title, but was stripped due to a long list of troubles outside the cage – watched on from cage side.

Luke Rockhold calls for interim title fight, Dana White responds

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

The middleweight title picture is currently a bit chaotic, as reigning champ Michael Bisping is poised to defend his title against Georges St-Pierre, a former welterweight champion who has never fought at middleweight before. Unsurprisingly, this news has not gone over well with the many more deserving contenders at middleweight, such as former champ Luke Rockhold. In a recent interview with TSN (via BloodyElbow.com), Rockhold explained that he believes this controversial middleweight title fight has created a need for an interim title fight to keep the contendership conversation moving properly.

Chris Weidman's corner's live reaction to controversial Gegard Mousasi stoppage

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of UFC 210, Chris Weidman experienced a controversial TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi. The controversy followed a Mousasi knee, which at first appeared to be illegal – forcing a confusing pause in the action – but was ultimately deemed legal, resulting in a Mousasi win. Part of the reason the fight wasn’t allowed to continue after the knee was deemed legal is because Weidman couldn’t tell the referee what day it was. According to live audio of Weidman’s corner, however, this might not actually be a cause for concern.

Jeff Mayweather responds to Dana White's "piece of sh*t" comments

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

There is no bigger story in combat sports today than the story of a possible boxing match between undefeated great Floyd Mayweather and transcendent MMA star Conor McGregor. The latest bit of drama to unfold in this ongoing narrative occurred last week when Jeff Mayweather – Floyd’s Uncle – suggested that the UFC was attempting to squeeze out 80% of whatever McGregor profited from this fight, leaving him with just 20% of the spoils.

Daniel Cormier trashes 'Cialis boy' Jon Jones in heated rant

Tom Taylor - April 9, 2017

Last night, in the main event of UFC 210, light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier defended his title for the second time with a second-round submission defeat of the dangerous Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. With this win, the champ set himself up for a possible rematch with his biggest rival – former champion Jon Jones, who was stripped of the title after a long list of troubles outside of the cage, and then suspended after a failed drug test in July of 2016. During the UFC 210 post-fight presser, Cormier weighed in on Jones’ recent insinuation that he is a dirty fighter, and the possibility of a rematch with the former champ. Cormier did not hold back.

Back in May of 2016, Brazil’s Rafael Carvalho scored a controversial split decision win over Dutch kickboxing specialist Melvin Manhoef, defending the Bellator middleweight strap in the process. Given that many fans and pundits believed Manhoef should have gotten the nod in this fight, Bellator then pencilled the two middleweights in for a rematch – though this rematch occurred a little later than planned.

Anthony Johnson shuts down talk of NFL career

Tom Taylor - April 9, 2017

Last night, in the main event of UFC 210, brick-fisted light heavyweight star Anthony Johnson came up short for a second time to reigning light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, succumbing to a second-round rear-naked choke. Shortly after this disappointing loss, the two-time light heavyweight title challenger known as “Rumble” surprised by announcing that he would be retiring from the sport of mixed martial arts. In his post-fight interview with colour commentator Joe Rogan, Rumble explained his decision to retire, suggesting that he’d found another job, not related to MMA. Shortly thereafter, MMA’s discerning fans noticed that Rumble’s Twitter bio included the hashtags #Rams and #LARams, which led to immediate speculation that he might be making a jump to the NFL.

Cody Garbrandt vs. TJ Dillashaw set for UFC 213

Tom Taylor - April 9, 2017

When Daniel Cormier choked out Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in the main event of UFC 210, it opened the door for a massive Cormier vs. Jon Jones light heavyweight grudge match sometime later this year. Given that UFC 213, which will cap off this year’s International Fight Week, is still without a main event, and that it occurs right as Jones’ PED-related suspension ends, it looks like the perfect setting for this massive light heavyweight title fight. At the UFC 210 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White was asked about the possibility of this grudge match headlining UFC 213, which is scheduled for July 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. While the boss was noncommittal in his answer, he did confirm that the UFC 213 lineup will include a bantamweight title fight between champ Cody Garbrandt and estranged former teammate TJ Dillashaw.

Anthony Johnson's corner was furious that he attempted to wrestle with Daniel Cormier

Tom Taylor - April 9, 2017

Last night, in the main event of UFC 210, brick-fisted light heavyweight star Anthony Johnson came up short for a second time to reigning light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, succumbing to a second-round rear-naked choke. While nothing can be taken away from Cormier’s impressive win, the champ did seem to be helped by Rumble’s bizarre strategy. As one of the most devastating strikers in the game, Rumble’s advantages were clearly at range, on the feet. In a strange twist, however, he opted to attempt to grapple with the former Olympic wrestler Cormier.
