K-1 World Champion Wei Rui inks deal with ONE Championship

ONE Championship has officially welcomed the highly touted Wei Rui into its ranks.

Wei Rui

The Chinese superstar has inked an exclusive deal with the world’s largest martial arts organization.

His credentials speak volumes about his prowess in the striking arts. As a multiple-time K-1 World Champion, he stands tall among the elite pound-for-pound kickboxers on the planet today.

The Henan native’s journey to becoming a household name in combat sports began within China’s sanda circuit.

With a burning desire to test his mettle against the best strikers, he made his transition to kickboxing in 2013 and wasted no time in leaving an indelible mark on the sport.

For years, he stood unrivaled at the regional level. He left a trail of defeated opponents in his wake. However, it was his triumph in the K-1 World Grand Prix Lightweight Championship Tournament in February 2017 that truly catapulted him into the spotlight.

Despite relinquishing his K-1 gold in March 2018, Wei has since embarked on a staggering 20-bout winning streak.

Along the way, he claimed victories over esteemed opponents such as Wang Pengfei, Kongnapa Weerasakreck, and Daizo Sasaki.

Now, Wei sets his sights on a new chapter in his career with ONE.

“I have competed in many domestic and overseas events. Despite the success and recognition I have achieved in China, I am still looking for opportunities to compete with the best fighters on the best platform,” he said.

“ONE Championship is the best combat sports promotion. It’s the right platform for me.”

Wei Rui set to compete in ONE’s bantamweight kickboxing division

Wei Rui is expected to compete in ONE Championship bantamweight kickboxing division. There, he finds himself on a stacked roster, headlined by none other than two-sport World Champion Jonathan Haggerty.

A specific date for Wei’s promotional debut hasn’t been confirmed yet. However, fans can expect to see him in action under the ONE banner later this year.
