Nate Diaz’s home in the UFC is at 155 pounds in the lightweight division. However, certain circumstances have recently put Diaz in welterweight fights. The reason for Diaz’s last fight being at 170 pounds was because he stepped in to take a fight with Conor McGregor on 11 days’ notice and never had a training camp going into the bout. After McGregor lost their first fight, he wanted a rematch with Diaz under all the same circumstances to try his best to avenge the loss. Now, the two are scheduled again for a rematch at welterweight.

Nate Diaz is never one to shy away from speaking his mind. The #5 ranked lightweight frequently speaks out against the UFC brass, and calls them out over the issue of fighter pay. Back in March, Diaz handed Conor McGregor the first loss of his professional career in the main event of UFC 196 when he submitted the featherweight champ. Now, ahead of their rematch at UFC 202 on August 20th, Diaz believes that another win over McGregor would mean a big shake-up in the UFC’s business plans.

Earlier this year, Conor McGregor was slated to fight Rafael dos Anjos in a highly anticipated fight in the main event of UFC 196 for the lightweight title. Unfortunately for RDA, he broke his foot in training, and was forced out of the bout. Ultimately, the UFC selected Nate Diaz as a replacement opponent for McGregor, and as MMA fans know by now, Diaz submitted McGregor, handing him his first UFC loss.

However, with taking the fight with Conor McGregor at UFC 196 on short notice, Diaz and McGregor agreed on fighting at welterweight. When Diaz caused McGgregor to tap in the second round of the fight, “The Notorious” was described as being “obsessed” with beating Diaz in a rematch under the same exact conditions, which is why their rematch is again at 170 pounds.

At UFC 199, it was announced that Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor II would go down at UFC 202 in August. The dust seems to have settled from the UFC 199 incident where MMA journalist Ariel Helwani and his team were kicked out of the event and “banned for life” after Helwani broke the news of Brock Lesnar’s return to the Octagon set for UFC 200. The UFC has since lifted the ban on Helwani and his team, but the Diaz brothers made sure to not let the flame go out.

UFC 199 was a major night for not only fights, but news regarding upcoming UFC events as well. In addition to Michael Bisping knocking out Luke Rockhold, and Dominick Cruz dominating Urijah Faber, it was announced that Brock Lesnar would be returning at UFC 200, and Diaz vs. McGregor II would go down at UFC 202. With that being said, the night didn’t go down without any drama.
