By Chris Taylor - March 5, 2017

Top UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov took to social media this evening where he delivered an apology to his fans, employer and slated UFC 209 opponent Tony Ferguson for not participating at this weekend’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Whoever you are or whatever you do, you'll get only what God prescribed for you. AlhamduliLlah for everything God gifted me for my 28 years, I got much more than I asked. I know that many people was waiting for this fight and I fail them. Want to bring my apologies for all my fans, UFC and my opponent Tony. My health is fine now, thanks God. These tough testing only makes me stronger. Thank everyone for the support. #Alhamdulillah

The statement read as follows: “Whoever you are or whatever you do, you’ll get only what God prescribed for you. #Alhamdulillah”

Khabib was admitted to a local Vegas hospital just hours prior to the UFC 209 weigh-ins, this after experiencing sharp pains in the area of his kidneys and liver. Shortly thereafter the UFC announced that Nurmagomedov would not be able to compete in his slated UFC 209 interim lightweight title fight opposite Tony Ferguson.

Following Khabib’s removal from UFC 209, UFC president Dana White stated that he was unsure when or at what weight class fans will see “The Eagle” fight next.

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have now been slated to fight on three separate occasions with none of those three contests ever coming to fruition.

With that said, it seems unlikely that the UFC will attempt to book the seemingly cursed Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov fight again.
