Jon Jones says he has ‘maybe’ three fights left in the UFC light heavyweight division

By Russell Ess - February 2, 2016

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been training hard for his return to the Octagon. Jones was suspended last year from the UFC and stripped of his championship title for legal issues involving a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico back in 2015.

Jones has since been reinstated by the UFC and is expected to take on the current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. This will be the second time Jones and Cormier will meet in the Octagon. Jones defeated Cormier back at UFC 182, which took place on January 2, 2015. The rematch will be Jones’ first fight back in the UFC and Cormier will get his chance to avenge his loss and keep the light heavyweight title.

Jones revealed to a fan on Twitter what his plans are in the UFC light heavyweight division. The fan asked, “how many more fights do you have at LHW?”

Jones replied, ” Maybe 3.”

Another fan replied to his answer saying, “@JonnyBones DC 2, DC 3, and Rumble,” perhaps implying that Cormier may take the second match.

Jones affirmed who he has in his scopes in the division. “No. DC, Rumble,Gus,” Jones tweeted.

What do we anticipate next for Jon Jones? With his bulking and heavy weight lifting regiment that he has been doing, all signs are pointing to moving up to the heavyweight division.

When the scheduled pay-per-view event headliner of Cain Velasquez versus Fabricio Werdum came to a crash as Velasquez pulled out due to injury, top contender Stipe Miocic was set to fight Werdum for the title. Werdum also pulled out due to an injury and Jones offered to fight Miocic on the condition that the interim heavyweight belt be on the line.

UFC President decided Dana White decided to not take up Jones’ offer as he is set on Cormier versus Jones 2.

Will we see Jon Jones beat his three opponents in his sights at light heavyweight and move up to take on the much bigger heavyweights? Share your thoughts on if Jones will walk away with three consecutive wins from the division in the comments!
