UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev has reacted to Ian Machado Garry going to Georgia to train.
Right now, Islam Makhachev sits at the top of the mountain as one of the best pound for pound fighters in mixed martial arts. At this point, though, it’s not clear as to who he is going to defend his title against first at 170 pounds. There have been plenty of rumors regarding a showdown with Kamaru Usman, but alongside that, Ian Machado Garry has been named as a potential option – with the Irishman’s recent trip to Georgia serving as a hint for some fans that he could be trying to improve his wrestling in time to take on Islam.
In a recent interview, Makhachev didn’t seem too bothered about this move from Machado Garry.
Makhachev on Machado Garry’s Georgia trip
“In Georgia, he’ll probably improve in some areas,” Makhachev said in a translated interview with Ushatayka. “I’ve been wrestling my whole life, not just two-three months, so I don’t care about that anymore.
“Throughout my recent fights, someone brings someone into their camps. They bring in some wrestlers or whatever. (Charles) Oliveira brought in some guy from the Iranian national team. Zero effect, so don’t waste your time.”
