Covington, who comes from a college wrestling background, has been one of the UFC’s top welterweights for years. He debuted with the promotion way back in 2014. After beating the likes of Dong Hyun Kim and Demian Maia, he won the interim UFC welterweight title with a decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos. He never won undisputed gold, coming up short in three title fights against Kamaru Usman (twice) and Leon Edwards. However, he has beaten many high level welterweights, including former champions Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley, as well as his former training partner Jorge Masvidal. He lost his last two bouts, most recently suffering a TKO defeat to Joaquin Buckley in late 2024. Despite his recent losses and long stretch of inactivity, he is still ranked in the welterweight top-15.
Unlike Covington, Danis comes from a Brazilian jiu jitsu background. He became a household name in MMA when he helped Conor McGregor prepare for a UFC rematch with Nate Diaz. Since then, he’s gone 3-o in MMA, notably winning a Misfits title in his last fight. He also partook in a high-profile boxing match with Logan Paul several years back, but was disqualified.
He has yet to compete under the RAF banner, but Covington has, recently beating fellow UFC star Luke Rockhold.
Danis and Covington are two of the latest big names to compete in RAF. Others include Arman Tsarukyan, Belal Muhammad, Henry Cejudo, Urijah Faber, Aljamain Sterling, and Benson Henderson.
