Originally, UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was expected to make the first defense of his heavyweight title opposite former champion and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar. Yet when the UFC needed a main event for UFC 230, which goes down on November 3 in New York, Cormier agreed to a short-notice heavyweight title fight with streaking contender Derrick Lewis While Derrick Lewis is now the first item on Daniel Cormier’s to-do list, the champ has remained adamant that there is still a Brock Lesnar fight in his future.

Shortly after undefeated UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229 earlier this month, he careened over the side of the Octagon and attacked McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. Seconds later, McGregor was getting into it with several of Nurmagomedov’s training partners inside the cage. It was a truly chaotic end to an otherwise hugely successful night for the UFC. In the wake of this post-UFC 229 brawl, dozens of members of the MMA community spoke up to share their distaste for the chaotic scene. Yet UFC President Dana White feels he was the only one that as truly bothered by it.

Ever since UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229 earlier this month, there’s been talk of a potential rematch between the two stars. That being said, UFC President Dana White claims this is not the current plan. “I haven’t even thought about a [McGregor] rematch,” White told ESPN. “Obviously, I know Conor wants a rematch. We need to do what’s right and what’s fair. We’ll see how it plays out. We literally haven’t thought about it yet.”

After months of bad pay-per-view numbers, where UFC 228 estimated at 130 thousand buys, UFC 229 was a sigh of relief for the UFC. In the main event, Conor McGregor made his return to the Octagon to take on the lightweight champion and undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov proved to be too much for McGregor and submitted him in the fourth round.

Tony Ferguson has been toting his UFC interim lightweight belt around with him all week — even though he no longer technically owns that title. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the undisputed lightweight champion, is surprisingly just fine with that. “When you fight like this, high-level fight, you have to believe you’re the champ, nobody can beat you,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said Thursday at the UFC 229 pre-fight press conference (transcript via MMAjunkie). “It’s OK. I’m OK about this.”

Earlier this week, it was announced that UFC 230, which will go down on November 3 in New York City, will be headlined by a women’s flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks. To say the fan reaction to this news was negative would be an understatement. All over social media, fans shared their disappointment with this main event, many of whom suggested the card should have just been headlined by the Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz fight that is currently serving as the co-main event. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan seemed to share this opinion, admitting that he doesn’t actually know how Sijara Eubanks is.

After Francis Ngannou’s back-to-back decision losses to then UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis, UFC President Dana White accused the Cameroonian-French heavyweight contender of having an ego problem. “I can tell you that his ego absolutely did run away with him,” White said of Francis Ngannou in an interview with MMA Fighting. “The minute that happens to you in the fight game, you start to fall apart. I had some personal encounters with him, as did other people in the organization, and this guy’s ego was so out of control.”

UFC 229, which will be headlined by a blockbuster lightweight title fight between undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor, is now less than a month away. Surprisingly, however, the UFC has done very little in the way of promotion for this potentially massive October 6 fight card. Speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter in the midst of last weekend’s UFC 228 festivities, UFC President Dana White assured that there are, in fact, a couple of UFC 229 press conferences coming, which we can of course expect to include both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.
