Jorge Masvidal fuels rumors of UFC White House fight with Conor McGregor

Jorge Masvidal isn’t claiming he’s fighting Conor McGregor at the upcoming UFC White House event. But he’s definitely not denying it either.

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, the former welterweight contender hinted at a major fight announcement. It just so happens rumors about a fight between him and McGregor have been swirling on social media in recent days, so the timing is difficult to ignore.

When asked specifically about fighting McGregor at the Whitehouse, he was conspicuously coy.

Is Jorge Masvidal fighting Conor McGregor at UFC White House event?

“Some of it is like level-five only access, so I can’t really say too much, but I am training for something big,” Masvidal said. “… You never know, right? Give ’em what they want, not what they expect. I can say it’s some big news. I have some fight news coming soon, and it’s very big news.

“I can’t deny or confirm any of that right now, but maybe hopefully soon, I can,” he added. “… Like maybe 10 days, something like that, I should have more confirmation on it.”

Masvidal went on to refer to himself as Donald Trump’s “favorite fighter.” While he is not the only fighter to make that claim, he does have a relationship with the President, and has fought in front of him before. So, it would make sense for him to join the UFC White House card on those grounds.

However, Masvidal has not for the UFC since he suffered a fourth consecutive loss in 2023. Since then, he has competed just once, losing a boxing match to Nate Diaz. So, while he does have a relationship with Trump, he would need to be resigned by the promotion to compete at the June 14 White House event. That seems a bit unlikely after so many losses.

McGregor, meanwhile, has not fought in even longer. His last fight was in 2021, when he suffered a loss to Dustin Poirier, and left the cage with a broken leg.

For much of the years since, he has been linked to a fight with Michael Chandler, however, UFC boss Dana White recently shut that plan down. White also seemed to nix the possibility of McGregor fighting at the White House, but these remarks from Masvidal are certainly interesting.
