WATCH | Mike Tyson absolutely rips the pads in first training session for Jake Paul fight

Boxing legend Mike Tyson is putting in the work ahead of his fight with Jake Paul.

Earlier this month, ‘Iron Mike’ signed a deal to return to the boxing ring. The legend hasn’t competed since an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, where they fought to a draw. Almost four years later, Mike Tyson will return to fighting to face YouTuber-turned-fighter, Jake Paul.

‘The Problem Child’ has largely made his career in boxing, by beating MMA fighters. However, last year, Jake Paul began targeting more orthodox opponents, first knocking out journeyman Andre August. Paul scored another win in his return earlier this month, knocking out another outmatched foe in the form of Ryan Bourland.

Now, Jake Paul will return to the boxing ring for his biggest test, against Mike Tyson. However, while the fight itself will be a big one, many don’t have a lot of interest in it. Since the bout announcement last week, many fans online have slammed Paul for choosing to fight a 57-year-old man. Furthermore, the YouTuber-turned-boxer has opened up as a heavy-betting favorite.

However, that 57-year-old man is still Mike Tyson. On Instagram, the boxing legend recently released a clip of himself training on the pads alongside Kings MMA’s Rafael Cordeiro. The MMA coach previously coached ‘Iron Mike’ during his 2020 comeback fight against Jones Jr. as well.

Training footage released ahead of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match

In the post on social media, Mike Tyson wrote that it was just “day one” of training. While that is the case, the boxing legend appears to be as strong as ever. Despite his age, it’s clear that Tyson still knows how to box. That is largely bad news for Jake Paul, who has promised a knockout win over the 57-year-old.

However, it still remains to be seen if the fight will be a real one. Earlier this week, there were reports that Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was being targeted as a professional boxing match and not an exhibition. If the fight goes down as a pro bout, it will be the legend’s first since a knockout loss to Kevin McBride in 2005.

Ultimately, the decision will be left in the hands of the Texas State Athletic Commission. As of now, it’s unclear when they will weigh in on the possibility of making Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson a professional bout. However, given the former champion’s age, it remains unlikely they would give it the green light.
