Zingano Returns! Set To Fight Nunes In Vegas

By BJPENN.COM News - July 10, 2014

UFC No. 1 contender, Cat Zingano is finally set to return to action following a rough run-of-things on the sidelines.

While prepped for a possible title fight, a Ronda Rousey injury has put that prospect too far out. Rather than wait for what’s hers, Zingano has agreed to fight the very dangerous Amanda Nunes.

The two bantamweight fighters will square off at UFC 178 in Las Vegas. The pay-per-view event is scheduled for September 27, but a venue has yet to be announced.

Zingano made her UFC debut back in April of last year with a brutal stoppage of Miesha Tate (pictured). That victory set her up for a coaching stint on TUF 18 opposite Ronda Rousey and gave her a shot at the UFC’s bantamweight title.

An injury forced her out of the bout and subsequently out of the TUF gig too. With other personal issues at play, Zingano will have been out nearly 18 months come fight night.

Her opponent, Amanda Nunes is undefeated in the UFC, boasting two first round TKO victories in the process.

Confirmed fights for UFC 178 are as follows:

Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson
Tim Kennedy vs. Yoel Romero
Dominick Cruz vs. Takeya Mizugaki
Amanda Nunes vs. Cat Zingano
