McGregor: UFC 189 will compete with Mayweather and Pacquiao PPV buys

Boxing legends Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will square off in Sin City on May 2nd in what will likely be the biggest pay-per-view event of all time.

With that said, UFC featherweight Conor McGregor believes his headlining title fight with Jose Aldo at July’s UFC 189 event in Las Vegas will compete with the PPV buys generated from Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

Here is what the brash Irishman had to say (via Jeremy Botter of Bleacher Report):

“I think we’re going to compete with Mayweather and Pacquiao,” McGregor said.

One journalist asked McGregor if he expected his Aldo fight to do 4 million pay per view buys.

“We will see. Is that what you estimate Mayweather and Pacquiao to be?,” McGregor asked.

The reporter said his personal estimate was 3.5 million.

“Three and a half? I don’t think so,” McGregor replied. “I am not interested in that fight as much as this one.”

It is highly unlikely that the McGregor vs. Aldo fight will do anywhere near the numbers of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

However, UFC 189 could be one of the most purchased UFC PPV events of all time.
