Kyle Kingsbury is coming off a disappointing loss to Glover Teixeira, and before that a decision loss to Stephan Bonnar. He is someone who admittedly looks forward to putting on a fight of the night type performance and doesn’t mind if it’s coming off a loss or not. He is hoping to prove that point in his next bout.
His official UFC fight career started with a loss to Tom Lawlor at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale in December 2008. After that loss he rattled off four straight wins before losing the aforementioned fights to Bonnar and Teixeira. Now he’s looking to get back on the winning track and standing in his way is Jimi Manuwa.
After turning down a UFC contract a few years ago, Manuwa signed with the promotion in July 2012. Manuwa looks set to face Kingsbury at UFC on Fuel TV 5. Manuwa is currently considered to be the third biggest Light Heavyweight prospect in Europe by most. His biggest test will assuredly be Kyle.
Kingsbury attended Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California. Kingsbury played high school football for the school, playing the defensive tackle position. He earned many titles such as: “Defensive Lineman of the Year” in the Santa Clara Valley League (2000), two-time first-team all-league selection (1999 and 2000), also earned second-team All-Central Coast Section honors behind first-team selection Jared Allen his senior year. Kingsbury was selected by the North squad for the North vs. South San Jose Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star football game, after a senior season where he racked up 53 tackles, 10 sacks and two fumble recoveries in his final year. Kyle was the captain for both his football team and his wrestling team.
