Nate Diaz first mentioned his inability to make the TUF finale 18 event in September when he revealed that his High School reunion was going down on the same evening. His talks were dismissed by the UFC boss and his manager and everyone let the topic go.

“I think we’re starting to get there (mainstream) now.I don’t think we’re mainstream yet. I really don’t. I know people disagree with me when I say that. But I think we’re starting to be looked at as one of the major sports now. If you look at what we’ve done on television, it’s pretty amazing, and our live events, what we do at venues. It would be tough to not call us one of the major sports. To me, mainstream is when you walk down a street in any city anywhere and everybody knows what you are, and we’re not (there yet.)” On a recent media call, UFC President Dana white revealed that while he doesn’t believe the UFC is mainstream just yet, he does feel that the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, branded by the promotion is one of the Major global sports.

In August UFC featherweight Cole Miller came on BJPENN.COM Radio to announce he was contesting his decision loss to Manny Gamburyan at ‘UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen.’ His argument was that he actually stopped Gamburyan in the first round, but due to some misguided officiating, the bout was allowed to continue, which led to his eventual unanimous decision loss.

In February of last year veteran MMA Fighter Gary Goodridge (pictured) came out to the media about his Dementia pugilistica (DP), a type of neurodegenerative disease or dementia that may affect amateur or professional boxers as well as athletes in other sports who suffer concussions. It was a shocker for MMA fans, fighters and analysts who often side with the theory of UFC President Dana White, that MMA is one of the safest sports on the planet. In a sport where the combatants only contest three-rounds, unlike boxing’s twelve-round fights, many believed that the mix of ground and stand-up fighting, combined with short bout times protected the fighters from significant brain damage.

“I believe he (Vitor Belfort) deserves to fight for the title, even because he has been doing his part (to earn a title shot), just like other fighters like Ronaldo Jacare and Lyoto Machida, who just dropped to 185… I saw the fight [against Hendo], he fought really well.Vitor has been doing great, showing why he was the UFC champion for a long time. He deserves respect. We’ll just have to wait for the next chapters.” Following last Saturday’s impressive K.O. over Dan Henderson (See Video), Vitor Belfort has put himself in a very good position to contend for the UFC’s middleweight title.
