“I want to apologize to all my fans that have been let down by the news of me not competing in the title fight against Chris Weidman. I wanted nothing more than to go and compete for the belt. As you all know, I have been doing a legal treatment approved by every commission I fight under called TRT for a health deficiency that I have. As of yesterday the Nevada commission banned the use of TRT. I am not exempt.” In a recent post to his Instagram, Vitor ‘The Phenom’ Belfort, apologized to fight fans for being pulled from the UFC 173 main event for his testosterone use.

“Being part of the Viacom family and having Spike as a legitimate partner, we can offer things to fighters like we’ve done with (Rampage) in terms of the theatrical stuff and the reality programming he’s done. We offered some of those things to Gil. There was no way they could match the deal without giving Gil on-camera opportunities and huge pay-per-view participation. “To the best of my knowledge, he’ll have the best pay-per-view participation in the UFC now, which is great for Gil – he’s a good dude, a heck of a fun guy to watch fight, and he’s one of the good guys in the game. I’d have preferred he fight here, but he’s going to have financial security for his family.”

“At the end of the day, we have a fight to promote on May 24. Chris is going to defend his title, and you know how this business works: You’ve got to get commercials in two to three months early. We’ve got to get key art done. We’ve got a fight to promote and Vitor, because [NSAC] came down with this ruling, Vitor is going to have to comply with that, which he is going to. But we don’t know how long that process will take for him to get a license, whether it is two weeks or two months. We can’t be in limbo as a company. We need to promote a fight, so the most logical thing was for Vitor to get going with his process to file an application in Nevada, and once that gets done, we could revisit this thing. But we have a fight to promote on the 24th and we can’t sit around in limbo and wonder whether he’s going to be eligible to fight.” In a recent statement to Yahoo Sport!, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, defended the company’s decision to pull Vitor Belfort from his UFC 173 title tilt against Chris Weidman.

If it’s striking, then whoever gets knocked out will get knocked out, but I will make sure that when I hit somebody, I will knock out.” During Saturday morning’s press-conference in China, Korean based fighter Dong Hyun Kim, put the UFC’s welterweight division on notice and tried to stake his claim at a title shot.

Last week the Nevada State Athletic Commission banned the use of Testosterone Replacement Therapy in their jurisdiction and shortly after Brazil and the UFC followed suit. The next day Vitor Belfort was removed from his title fight against Chris Weidman and he was replaced by Lyoto Machida. According to Vitor, the UFC promised him the winner of the Weidman vs. Machida title fight.

The UFC returns to Brazil later this month for ‘UFC Fight Night 38,’ a fight card headlined by a light heavyweight rematch between Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The event takes place March 23 live from the Nelio Dias Gymnasium in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.

Following this morning’s UFC Fight Night in Macau, China, UFC Executive Mark Fischer announced the promotions plans to return to the region. According to Fischer the UFC will return to The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena on August 23 for another ‘Fight Night’ card and they head to Japan’s Saitama Arena on September 20.
