“Every state has approved mixed martial arts. They run shows just about anywhere. You’ve got shows that generate revenue everywhere — from hotel rooms, to restaurants, to the actual fights. It’s regulated appropriately by every state commission in the country. The New York State Athletic commission is one of the top athletic commissions in the country and would be able to regulate the sports at a drop of a hat.”

“I think I’m close, either. The next fight, whoever Joe Silva gives me. If it’s Vitor Belfort, [Ronaldo Souza], that puts me right there. I’m No. 6. [If] I beat a No. 2-3 guy, that’s a title fight. I’ll be 4-0 in the UFC just beating a title eliminator. My last two fights have been five-round main events. I’m potentially one fight away. “Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi are fighting. Could I potentially be fighting the winner of that fight? That’s definitely in the realm, too. If that’s the case maybe I am two fights away. If I cut down to 170 I don’t think they’d let me fight for the title. I’d still be one fight away. Maybe two. So no, I don’t think I’d be any closer.”

“I don’t think anybody has the kind of streak that I have going. I don’t think anyone has put on fights as exciting as the ones I have put on. I don’t think any one has finished fights the way I have. I believe I have every right to be at the top, and the only argument is whether I have fought guys who are at a high level as those guys. “I have won all the fights they put in front of me. I’ve never asked for anything different. I feel I have performed well enough to compare to other contenders performances and I should be considered for a title fight.” In a recent interview with Bloodyelbow.com, Matt Brown discussed his contender status.

“I honestly believe, since that first fight, that I am a completely different fighter. Back then, I pretty much relied about 90-percent on my wrestling. Taking that fight, I probably wasn’t ready for that fight. I think I had a couple of fights in the UFC, still trying to figure myself out as a fighter. I went in there, took the fight, you just don’t turn those fights down in this sport. But, I felt that I was winning the first round or at least staying close with him. I obviously got caught. It’s definitely something I’m going to pay attention to. There is a lot of studying I’m going to be doing. I feel like this fight will be a completely different fight.” “This is my chance. This is my opportunity. I’m going to train harder than I’ve ever trained before for any fight. I’m going to get in there looking to take Aldo’s head off. I’m going to be smart. I’m going to mix up my wrestling. I’m going to put him on the mat. This is a fight that I need to be able to mix up very well, both wrestling and my striking. Obviously my cardio is going to be on point. I’m going to be doing a lot of stuff I did in the Guida fight. Cardio was something that I really paid attention to in that camp and I felt like that was the best shape I’d ever been in for any fight.”

There’s always an advantage to being heavier in Jiu Jitsu. . . [but] when we used to roll… back then, it was all technique. I wasn’t allowed to use strength, I had to use technique… That made me learn things. You know, I could out-strength anyone, but it’s all about technique… Jiu Jitsu is a good base for anyone coming into mixed martial arts. A lot of [Jiu Jitsu] doesn’t work in mixed martial arts. The fact that, you know, Jiu Jitsu is like a chess game. You’re playing a chess game with your opponent. With mixed martial arts you can’t do that because, all of a sudden you’re playing a chess game and the guy gets up, grabs the game. . . and just starts smashing you with the board.
