Charlie Brenneman tried to bring “the wrestle” to Brazil with him tonight, but Silva punished him after he made one wrong move. Brenneman attempted to take the fight to the mat but Silva transitioned and was able to take his back after a grappling exchange. Brenneman tried to race back to his feet, but Silva got his hooks in and started working for the choke. He locked his forearm against the throat of Brenneman and started cranking. Brenneman had no choice but to submit and tap out.

Even though this was the first UFC fight to not see a finish in 12 fights, it was still worthy of a standing ovation when the final horn sounded in Brazil. Thomas Almeida and Tim Gorman stood for fifteen full minutes and exchanged blows to the point where the Brazilians were cheering for the foreigner! Both Almeida and Gorman saw their moments of brilliance where they threatened finishing the bout, but their chins withstood the punishment and they always made it to the end of the round.

The UFC Fight 55 Bonuses were announced at this evenings press conference in Sydney, Australia. UFC fighters Luke Rockhold, Louis Smolka, Robert Whittaker and Clint Hester earned an extra $50,000 each for their respective performances this evening.

Luke Rockhold (13-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) defeated Michael Bisping (25-7 MMA, 15-7 UFC) via second round submission in tonight’s UFC Fight Night 55 main event bout in Sydney, Australia. Bisping began round 1 by utilizing a pawing jab to land a few right hands on Rockhold. The middleweights would exchange strikes but neither man was able to land anything significant in the early going. The pair would collide heads causing a cut to open on the left eye of Bisping. After a quick check from the doctor, the fight was allowed to continue. Rockhold would catch Bisping with a hook which was followed by one of his trademark left body kicks forcing the Brit to back petal. Rockhold and Bisping would exchange leg kicks to end the first round.

Al Iaquinta (10-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) defeated Ross Pearson (16-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) via TKO in the second round of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 55 co-main event bout in Sydney, Australia. Al Iaquinta utilized some good head movement and fancy footwork early to begin outpointing his opponent Ross Pearson. Both men were happy to strike in round one. Pearson landed some solid kicks while Iaquinta was landing with a quick jab. Iaquinta began circling, forcing Pearson to chase him down which left him exposed. Iaquinta would capitalize by scoring a sharp lead right followed by a body jab to close out round one.

Zack Mwekessa was ranked as the favorite out of the four competitors in the tournament tonight and with good reason: He is packing a TON of power. Cavalari was lost in the mixed and after a slow semi-finals bout, nobody expected him to knock Mwekessa out the way he did.
