Chimaev suffered the first loss of his pro MMA career in a highly competitive title fight against Sean Strickland at UFC 328. Chimaev put the UFC Middleweight Championship on the line against Strickland and realized that his grappling attempts would be no cake walk from the second round and beyond. Strickland made things a dog fight until the final horn and he was awarded with the split nod.

Justin Gaethje is making things personal with Ilia Topuria just two weeks prior to UFC Freedom 250. Gaethje and Topuria are set to collide in a lightweight title unification bout on June 14. In the buildup to the fight, things had been fairly cordial between “The Highlight” and “El Matador” outside of the typical competitive talk. Things took a bit of a turn when Topuria released a video of himself attending a mock funeral for all of his fallen opponents, and included Gaethje as his next “victim.”

The hope, of course, is that the winner will go on to face current undisputed champion Tom Aspinall, but his return to action is still up in the air due to his eye injuries.

Costa and Strickland shared the Octagon back in June 2024 at UFC 302. It was a rebound fight for Strickland, who saw his first world title run end thanks to Dricus du Plessis in the fight prior. Ultimately, Strickland defeated Costa via split decision.

Merab Dvalishvili isn’t concerned about losing out on a UFC title rematch. Dvalishvili lost the UFC Bantamweight Championship in his second meeting with Petr Yan back in Dec. 2025. “The Machine” dropped a unanimous decision to Yan. Dvalishvili has been calling for a trilogy fight, but Yan underwent lumbar surgery earlier this year.
