Justin Gaethje shares final words for Ilia Topuria before UFC Freedom 250: “I was absolutely made for this s*** right here”

Justin Gaethje has said his peace one more time before he does battle with Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250.

Gaethje and Topuria will compete in the main event of Sunday’s historic card on the White House lawn. “The Highlight” and “El Matador” will be competing to unify the UFC Lightweight Championship. Gaethje is entering as the interim titleholder. He won the title by defeating Paddy Pimblett after Topuria went on a brief hiatus.

Going into Sunday’s event, Gaethje is a significant betting underdog. The odds have puzzled the likes of longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, who thinks it’s a mistake to overlook Gaethje.

At the end of the UFC Freedom 250 ceremonial weigh-ins, Gaethje got on the mic and he delivered a closing message to Topuria and those who are doubting him (via MMAFighting).

“I was absolutely made for this s*** right here,” Gaethje said. “I am blessed to be in this position that I am and I will take his ‘O’ from him tomorrow night. You watch.”

Topuria and Gaethje were mostly cordial in the buildup to their historic headliner, but the tide turned a bit. Topuria released a mock funeral video where he depicted Gaethje as his latest victim. Topuria also had some words for Gaethje’s father, which led to “The Highlight” bringing up “El Matador’s” divorce from Giorgina Uzcategui.

The animosity certainly hasn’t reached the levels of Topuria and rising heavyweight Josh Hokit, but there is tension ahead of fight night. Whether or not the banter will negatively impact Topuria or Gaethje remains to be seen.

If Gaethje pulls off the upset, it would be his first undisputed UFC title. While he has held interim gold in the past, Gaethje has never been able to unify the lightweight title up to this point.
