Fresh out of knee surgery, Kamaru Usman promises beating for ‘you know who’

Kamaru Usman was the picture of dominance in his welterweight title-winning defeat of Tyron Woodley at UFC 235. That being said, he didn’t leave the Octagon unscathed. During the fight, he injured his knee, and on Tuesday, went under the knife to repair this injury.

Moments after coming out of surgery, a still dazed Kamaru Usman took to his Instagram story, where he greeted his ever-expanding fan base and promised he’d be back in action soon.

He also promised a beating for “you know who.”

“I thought this was going to be like, I had knee surgery before, I thought this was going to be like that,” Usman said (transcript via MMA Fighting). “This ain’t that at all. At all. This sh*t different.

“I’ll be back in no time, and putting a beating on you know who,” Usman said.

While it’s not 100% clear who Kamaru Usman is talking about, all signs certainly point to his arch rival Colby Covington.

Covington and Usman’s rivalry has been rolling for months and it burbled to a boil after UFC 235, when the pair, along with Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, actually got violent inside The Palms casino in Las Vegas (see that here).

UFC President Dana White has assured that Colby Covington is the next man in line for the new champion Kamaru Usman. Provided White keeps his word, we can probably expect this fight to be made official sometime in the next few months, once Usman is all patched up.

Who do you think will come out on top when the cage door closes on Usman and Covington?
