Everyone and their mother has come out in support of UFC fighter Nick Diaz following his controversial five-year suspension, handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. There’s a White House Petition still going around, steadily gaining more votes by the day, and then there are fighters who have decided to boycott Nevada, saying that they will not fight there because of the ruling.

This past Friday, at Bellator 143, bantamweights Joe Warren and LC Davis fought in the night’s main event to determine the number one contender and the next time challenger. It was Warren, the former champ, who came out on top after three rounds of grinding grappling work. He got Davis down early and often and for the most part kept him there. However, pretty early on in the fight Davis suffered an eye poke from Warren. He took the usual time out and the referee continued to ask him if he was fine. It was noticeably red, but he said he could see and everything was good, so they continued to fight.

Cris Cyborg has recently been calling for year-round testing so that she can prove to everyone, including UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, that she’s clean so they can stop using that excuse for why she shouldn’t fight the undefeated champ. Rousey has had no issues slamming the Invicta FC featherweight champ for testing positive for PEDs in the past, even though all her tests since then have been clean.

Bellator MMA light heavyweight Phil Davis is coming off of quite the debut, winning a one night, four-man tournament at ‘Dynamite’ to earn a shot at the title, against Liam McGeary. There’s no word yet on when that title fight will take place, although president Scott Coker said it would likely the place towards the early part of next year. However, that’s not ruling out Davis as a possible opponent for Fedor Emelianenko, who will be returning at a Japan event on New Years Eve, cross promoted by Bellator and airing on Spike TV.

Fedor Emelianenko caught the mixed martial arts world off guard when he announced he would be making his return to the sport in a new Japanese based promotion rather than UFC or Bellator. While details surrounding his fight have yet to be revealed, fans have been clamoring about who “The Last Emperor” will be stepping into the ring with. While it has not been announced, it was expected that there will be a brief talent exchange for the New Year’s Eve show where Fedor will be making his return. Of course, Kimbo Slice’s name was one of the first to pop up but Bellator’s Scott Coker was quick to rule that one out, claiming he has other plans for the former UFC fighter.

Randy Couture has not dawned a pair of gloves inside the cage since his last fight in the octagon with Lyoto Machida at UFC 129. The UFC Hall of Famer has since made his transition to a career in Hollywood along with partnering up with Bellator several times. Couture also helps his son train and corners him in Bellator where he is undefeated in the lightweight division. Fedor Emelianenko lit the mixed martial arts world on fire when he recently announced he would be coming out of retirement to fight in a new Japanese-based promotion on New Years Eve. While he will not be fighting for Viacom’s Bellator, it is believed there is will be a exchange partnership.

Fans of mixed martial arts fans know there are moments within our sport where you just have to scratch your head and give it a shot. When Bellator announced they signed Kimbo Slice and would be putting him into the cage with Ken Shamrock, it was a confusing decision to say the least. However, it was simply a fun fight and brought a lot of new eyes to the lesser-known talent on the rest of the card. For all we know, two-on-two mixed martial arts could be the next big thing. Past prototype events like “Hip Show: Arena Combat” have proven it to be a work in progress, but the people behind “Arena Combat: American Battleground” have proven it to be a successful idea. The first ever sactioned team-based MMA event took place on American soil on Saturday evening and featured UFC and Bellator veterans Rodney Wallace and Adrian Miles.

Fedor Emelianenko shocked the world when he announced his return to mixed martial arts at Bellator and GLORY’s “Dynamite” event earlier this month. “The Last Emperor” will not be fighting for Bellator, but rather a new Japanese promotion that will likely borrow Bellator’s talent for their first few shows. Emelianenko’s opponent remains unnamed, but fans are clamoring for a return to MMA for Randy Couture. UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture has not stepped foot inside of a cage for a fight since his loss to Lyoto Machida in 2011. Machida sent Couture tumbling to the canvas after catching him off guard with a jumping front kick and Couture has turned his concentration to career in Hollywood since then.

Mixed martial arts is a bizarre sport where fighters can be forced to pull out of the fight at any moment. Renan Barao passed out while cutting weight which delayed his UFC 177 fight with TJ Dillashaw. Jose Aldo cracked his rib and was forced out of UFC 189. Now, Resurrection Fighting Alliance has one of the more interesting injuries in recent memory. Undefeated Grant Dawson was set to make his RFA debut last Friday, but was forced to pull out due to hot tub complications two days before his fight with Clayton Wimer. Dawson was told by doctors that he suffered first degree burns and the onset of “hot tub folliculitis” which is an extreme hot tub rash.

With over eighty professional mixed martial arts fights under his belt, UFC veteran Jeff Monson is as experienced as it gets outside of the octagon. Whether or not he has the skill to cut it with today’s talent is irrelevant; the forty-four year old is still touring the world and getting paid to kick a**! Monson almost suffered a loss at a recent event in Russia called “Shield Relight 2” and was knocked out and dazed in the first round. As he looked up from the canvas moments after the referee stepped in to wave the fight off, his opponent soccer kicked Monson in the head! He was disqualified and Monson’s hand was raised in victory. The undefeated and self proclaimed “king” of boxing hasn’t gained many fans with his recent pair of fights, and will continue to struggle in doing so with his most recent statement. Floyd Mayweather has been accused of being greedy and fighting safe so he can take home a guaranteed paycheck, but “Money” should not be blamed for his approach in fighting or attitude on pay. Mayweather has walked into his last two fights with Manny Pacquiao and Andre Berto and walked out millions of dollars richer breaking records in the process. During those fights, he took minimal damage while dictating the pace of the fight in the fashion of a true ring general. It is understood that fans do not think his style of fighting is as exciting as Mike Tyson’s was back in the early 1990s, but that isn’t the type of fighter Mayweather is.

Sergio Pettis is finally stepping out of the shadow cast by his older brother Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. It was a shadow that was not deserved; Sergio impressed long before he made his way into the octagon and won his debut with an impressive decision win against Will Campuzano. Sergio was just twenty years old at the time of his debut and still has plenty of time to be just as successful, if not moreso, than “Showtime”. Earlier in the week a report came out detailing shady circumstances surrounding Vitor Belfort’s drug test results ahead of his title fight against Jon Jones. The report alleges that the UFC knew about him testing for very high levels of testosterone and instead of pulling him from the fight, let him compete and after accidentally sending the results to several fighters and managers, issued an email telling the recipients to ignore the details of the test results and delete the email ASAP. Yeah, pretty shady.

Some news from the boxing world, as the highly anticipated fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury as been scrapped from it’s original date. The fight was set to go down on Oct. 24, but Klitschko just recently announced that he has to postpone the fight because he has suffered an injury. Man, we just got that ridiculous press conference and now the fight’s called off? Bummer.
