It was Frankie Edgar’s 5th straight win after a KO sent Chad Mendes back to TAM (Team Alpha Male) in Sacramento CA with his second straight defeat dropping 3 of his last four contest in total. Edgar did everything within his power to get a title shot after the his victory over Mendes. But, it fell on deaf ears as Dana White and the UFC moved forward with a bigger event allowing Conor McGregor an opportunity to simultaneously hold two titles, a first for the organization.

Throughout Conor McGregor’s run in the UFC many have criticized ‘Notorious’ for what they believe is an inability to wrestle. At UFC 189 when McGregor fought Chad Mendes for the interim UFC featherweight championship he managed to stuff some takedowns from Mendes, however was ultimately taken down and controlled on the ground for some time.

As Ronda Rousey prepares to host Saturday Night Live tonight we’ve seen a preview of the episode, as well as a behind the scenes interview with the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion. While the SNL preview also featured an appearance from pop music star Selena Gomez, who will be co-hosting with Rousey, many couldn’t help but notice Rousey was wearing a fancy ring on ‘that finger.’

Recently it was announced that our namesake BJ Penn would be coming out of retirement to chase the featherweight championship. With Greg Jackson in his corner, Penn hopes to capture the featherweight championship and become the first man in UFC history to hold a championship belt in 3 weight classes. While a fight with Nik Lentz seemed to be out of the question, Penn is coming back regardless of whether or not he gets to fight Lentz.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is fresh off of his UFC 194 KO loss to Conor McGregor, and currently has no plans set for his next fight. Conor McGregor on the other hand has been booked to move up to lightweight at UFC 197 and challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight championship. While McGregor claims that RDA is a traitor to Brazil, Jose Aldo says there is no way he would fight his fellow countryman, and there’s no way McGregor leaves UFC 197 with the lightweight strap.
