Many of the UFC lightweight fighters were not as welcoming on the idea of Conor McGregor going up a weight class and fighting at 155lbs. Both Rafael dos Anjos and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone said that it was a bad idea for McGregor to move up. UFC welterweight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson on the other hand thinks that going a step further and joining the guys at 170lbs would be a great move for the UFC featherweight champion. Thompson spoke with Submission Radio recently and had nothing but praise for the vocal Irishman (transcribed by Bloody Elbow):

Despite the lengthy layoff, Cruz put on a spectacular performance that saw him pick up a split decision win over TJ Dillashaw. Many believed that the decision was a controversial one, and that Dillashaw should have been given the nod. Immediately following the bout, Cruz’s longtime nemesis Urijah Faber called out ‘The Dominator’ for a trilogy fight. While there are no plans set in stone, Dillashaw spoke about Faber potentially getting the title shot rather than him getting an immediate rematch.

On Sunday, UFC President Dana White announced that Cain Velasquez was forced out of his UFC 196 title fight with heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum due to an injury. Top contender Stipe Miocic was set to fill in for Velasquez for his chance at the title.

With Stipe Miocic looking like a hero for stepping up in such short notice, sources reveal that the fight in fact will not go down between Miocic and Werdum. Cain Velasquez had to call off the fight due to injury leaving Werdum less than two weeks to prepare for a different fight. Werdum reserved the right not to fight due to his own injuries that he would of had to fight through had not Velasquez stepped down from the title fight.
