UFC issues statement after New York judge blocks MMA event

The New York vs. MMA saga continued today after New York District Court Judge Kimba Wood shot down the UFC’s preliminary injunction to bypass the New York MMA ban and hold Jones vs. Cormier II at the Madison Square Garden. UFC COO Lawrence Epstein released a statement on the matter, which was obtained by MMAMania.

On Sunday, UFC President Dana White announced that Cain Velasquez was forced out of his UFC 196 title fight with heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum due to an injury. Top contender Stipe Miocic was set to fill in for Velasquez for his chance at the title.

With Stipe Miocic looking like a hero for stepping up in such short notice, sources reveal that the fight in fact will not go down between Miocic and Werdum. Cain Velasquez had to call off the fight due to injury leaving Werdum less than two weeks to prepare for a different fight. Werdum reserved the right not to fight due to his own injuries that he would of had to fight through had not Velasquez stepped down from the title fight.
