The ongoing beef between UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson and UFC President Dana White continues to be an uncertain one, that most recently saw White fire several scathing jabs at ‘Mighty Mouse’ during a recent interview.
The feud started after Johnson allegedly accepted a fight with Ray Borg per the UFC’s request after shooting down his hopes for defending his belt against Sergio Pettis. After accepting the fight against Borg, the UFC then pressured Johnson into accepting a fight with former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. When Johnson refused, a full on beef ensued that saw Johnson release a lengthy letter detailing the situation, which included the UFC threatening to shut down the flyweight division. Johnson’s letter in part read:
I agreed to their tyrannical demand to fight Ray Borg and Ray also agreed.
UFC has refused to give me PPV points on any future flyweight bouts, and has never given me any PPV points on previous bouts. My request was fair and the matchmaker in charge of the flyweight and bantamweight division agreed.
I gave UFC fair conditions to change the fight to TJ Dillashaw and they refused.
Dana and Sean have told me that they have no interest in marketing me or the smaller divisions, so when they say that I will make PPV money vs. Dillashaw, they leave out the fact that I have to hit certain numbers of buys, which will not be hit if they fail in marketing me like they have in my previous fights.”
Now, fan favorite flyweight Justin Scoggins is looking to rally his fellow flyweights in order to help save the division by putting out an open challenge to anyone on the UFC’s flyweight roster:
On my flight back to 🇺🇸 Had to get that in-flight wifi…trying to get anyone in the @UFC Flyweight division to take a fight with me. I've already grown so much from this loss I'm STARVING for another go in that Octagon. So…open invitation. UFC Flyweights, our division is in jeopardy (in case you're unaware.) Regardless of my last fight, I'm still, THE most electric, well-rounded Martial Artist in this division. I'm healthy, I'm in shape, and I'm ready to take another fight, against any opponent, just say when. I'll make the show. Who's stepping up? #mma #martialarts #ufc #tank #karate #flow
