BREAKING | Dillon Danis to Finally Make His MMA Debut at Bellator 198

By Justin Golightly - March 9, 2018

Dillon Danis has an MMA debut on the horizon that has long been teased since his signing with Bellator in March of last year. Dates were set and broke, set then broke again, but now it looks like everything is good to go. First reported by MMA Fighting, Danis is going to a get a big, main card slot on the big April 28th Bellator 198 card headlined by legend Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

“It really doesn’t matter to me [who I face], honestly. I’m 24 years old, so I’m going to fight everybody anyway. Honestly, I was thinking it’d be really cool to fight the champion in the first fight. I was thinking like, Douglas Lima. I really, really, really think that Douglas Lima would be an easy fight for me. I really think so. I feel that on the ground I would play with him. That was what I was thinking. But, I mean, I gotta listen to my coaches too and make sure that I go on the right path.” — Dillon Danis speaking to Submission Radio.

It should come at no surprise that Dillon Danis will be training at Team SBG, the headquarters of Conor McGregor. It’s a gym that Danis is no stranger to, having been brought in to the elite and protective group to help McGregor prepare for the wars he competed in with Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt Nate Diaz. It’s only fitting he’d return to have the same team get him ready for his transition into mixed martial arts.

Dillon Danis has been one of the top submission grappling competitors for a long time, racking up a couple of wins over AJ Agazarm and even UFC veteran Joe Lauzon at Metamoris 6. It’s no secret that he’ll be looking to drag his future opponents into deep water on the mat, although Conor McGregor may be able to teach him how to throw a deadly left hook.

Bellator 198 goes down on April 28 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Dillon Danis’ opponent hasn’t been announced yet even though he has since called out former Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima.
