Many of the UFC lightweight fighters were not as welcoming on the idea of Conor McGregor going up a weight class and fighting at 155lbs. Both Rafael dos Anjos and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone said that it was a bad idea for McGregor to move up. UFC welterweight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson on the other hand thinks that going a step further and joining the guys at 170lbs would be a great move for the UFC featherweight champion. Thompson spoke with Submission Radio recently and had nothing but praise for the vocal Irishman (transcribed by Bloody Elbow):

Ronda Rousey isn’t the only one getting recognized in Venice, California in works of art. The UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor also has some adoring fans in the street art community who painted a mural of “The Notorious” out on a street in Venice. It isn’t as big of a piece as Ronda Rousey’s mural who lives in the city as the hometown hero, but for the Irishman’s fame, it is a step in the right direction.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is going up a weight class to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight championship belt at UFC 197 on March 5. This will mark the vocal 145-pound champion’s first fight at 155 pounds in the UFC and is looking like he is putting on the weight well. McGregor posted this photo to his Instagram account. It looks like it is a promotional shoot for UFC 197 with McGregor looking noticeably more muscular.

It was Frankie Edgar’s 5th straight win after a KO sent Chad Mendes back to TAM (Team Alpha Male) in Sacramento CA with his second straight defeat dropping 3 of his last four contest in total. Edgar did everything within his power to get a title shot after the his victory over Mendes. But, it fell on deaf ears as Dana White and the UFC moved forward with a bigger event allowing Conor McGregor an opportunity to simultaneously hold two titles, a first for the organization.

Throughout Conor McGregor’s run in the UFC many have criticized ‘Notorious’ for what they believe is an inability to wrestle. At UFC 189 when McGregor fought Chad Mendes for the interim UFC featherweight championship he managed to stuff some takedowns from Mendes, however was ultimately taken down and controlled on the ground for some time.

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos believes that his bout with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is where he will become a highly recognized prized fighter with a big draw in the UFC. Although dos Anjos is a champion, his star power isn’t on the same level as the outspoken Irishman. Dos Anjos previously said that he wants to build his legacy and name to be as big as Hall of Fame legend BJ Penn, and will look to make his name more known with a win over McGregor. The Brazilian who has been getting flack from McGregor for moving from Brazil and living in the United States to train, had a moment where he won the exchange of words over the outspoken Irish showman during the UFC 197 Press Conference. McGregor said, ““I see a man who, although he is Brazilian, does not represent the Brazilian people like he should. He brings the name of Brazil down.
