During the UFC 199 broadcast it was officially announced that Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 2 would be going down at UFC 202 on August 20th. This came after much back & forth regarding the bout. With the UFC brass looking to book the bout due to McGregor’s ‘obsession’ with the fight. Following that it looked as though the fight wouldn’t get booked.

On Thursday, UFC President Dana White was a guest on Colin Cowherd’s “The Herd” to talk about the latest news regarding the UFC. One of the topics was about the frustration White has had in putting the rematch together for the Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor rematch, with the bulk of the frustration coming from the negotiations on Diaz’s terms for the fight when they had lunch in Stockton two weeks ago.

A rematch with Nate Diaz is the fight Conor McGregor wants the most at this point. “The Notorious” wants their second meeting under the same rules and conditions as their initial bout at UFC 196, which took place back in March where Diaz was able to submit McGregor in the second round. McGregor wants the fight, however, Diaz is holding his position to make sure he gets his fair share of the prize money that the fight will bring in for the UFC and for McGregor.

Every year, ESPN publishes a list of the 100 most famous athletes in the world using a formula which compiles salary, endorsements, social media followings, and Google searches, and in turn produces a list of the 100 most famous athletes. For example, Soccer phenom Cristiano Ronaldo ranked #1 on the list, while NBA superstar LeBron James ranked #2 on the list. Surprisingly, two UFC stars ranked on the list. Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey ranked at #23, ahead of any other combat athlete. In addition, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor ranked at #37 on the list.

The seemingly invincible McGregor appeared unable to find his range, and ultimately ended up gassing in the 2nd round, resulting in Diaz landing a 1-2 combination that rocked McGregor, which led to a desperation takedown that quickly saw Diaz secure a rear naked choke, and win the fight.

While it has been reported that the fight will go down later this year, the lack of an official announcement has left many fans doubtful that the fight will actually happen. Sunday evening, Floyd Mayweather posted a photo of a promo poster for a boxing match with McGregor, however no date was given. Monday morning, McGregor took to Twitter to respond to the poster.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been on an indefinite hiatus from the Octagon since her brutal 2nd round KO loss to Holly Holm at UFC 194 back in November. Since then, Rousey has been filming quite a few movies in Hollywood. On the other hand, since Rousey’s loss, Conor McGregor won the featherweight championship by knocking out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds. Following that, McGregor was signed to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight championship, however dos Anjos broke his foot and was replaced by Nate Diaz. Diaz of course, went on to submit McGregor in the 2nd round. When a rematch was booked for UFC 200, McGregor was pulled from the bout for refusing to fulfill his media obligations.
