Alexis Davis (15-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) proved that she is one of the top contender’s in the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division by defeating Liz Carmouche (9-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) in the co-main event of last night’s “UFC Fight For The Troops 3” event at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. According to UFC president Dana White, Alexis Davis has put herself in “good position” following her win over former #1 contender Liz Carmouche. Knockout of the Night: Tim Kennedy Tim Kennedy made the troops in attendance proud tonight with his knockout victory over Rafael Natal. Having served for his country like those in attendance, Kennedy knew that he needed to provide the crowd with something they would remember for years to come. What better way to send the troops walking away than with a knockout victory? Kennedy was taking punishment early on in the first round by eating repeated leg kicks, but he answered with a hook of his own that sent Natal crashing to the mat. Kennedy jumped on his opponent only to be pulled off by the referee, and the crowd went wild.

The story of the first round revolved around unchecked leg kicks. Liz Carmouche saw early success with outside leg kicks, but Alexis Davis was answering with inside leg kicks of her own. Neither woman was checking their opponent’s leg kicks, but it seemed as if Carmouche was hobbling in the middle of the round. She started to check the kicks, but abandoned it and tried to counter with punches of her own. Other than a few big punches landed by both women, the leg kicks of Davis is what gave her the round.

Khabilov opened up the first round with a thunderous overhand right that let Masvidal know he was not to be underestimated. Jorge Masvidal let it be known that although he got cracked with a decent shot, it did not phase him and he continued to press forward. The two exchanged some decent shots throughout the opening round but the most impressive stat is that Masvidal stuffed all of Khabilov’s takedown attempts. This clearly gave Masvidal confidence as the fight was approaching the second round.
