WATCH! “GGG” knocks out Lemieux in the 8th round

All eyes were on Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on October 17th as he took center stage at Madison Square Garden in New York City for his fight with David Lemieux. With Floyd Mayweather retired from the ring, all eyes are on Golovkin to carry the torch as boxing’s “next big thing” and he proved why he has the potential to become just that.

Golovkin was obviously the heavy favorite walking into his fight with Lemieux, but the weight of the world was on his shoulders as he was putting his undefeated streak of 32-0 on the line. To the surprise of nobody, Golovkin engaged in a scrap that resulted in an exciting eighth round technical knockout.

Floyd Mayweather stepped foot inside the boxing ring for the last time in September when he clashed with Andre Berto. The fight went as expected; Mayweather utilized his elite evasion skills to catch Berto off guard with counter punches that bruised the challengers face up badly. Fans and media knew Mayweather would be retiring before he walked into the fight and with a record of 49-0, one has to wonder what it would take to get Mayweather to come back to try and round it off with an even 50-0 record.

Golovkin’s popularity skyrockets every time he walks out of a fight with his hand raised and it has to do with his exciting fighting style and dominant record.
