Two undefeated bantamweight fighters are set to meet at UFC 159 in New Jersey, as it was announced that Johnny Bedford (19-9-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will take on Erik Perez (13-4 MMA, 3-0 UFC) at the Prudential Center on April 27. A semifinalist on “The Ultimate Fighter 14,” Johnny Bedford, has posted back-to-back knockout wins over Louis Gaudinot and Marcos Vinicius since his time on the show. The former NCAA Division I wrestler has won 8 of his past 9 fights and has recorded 15 stoppages in 19 career wins.

“In my mind, when I’m at my best I can beat anyone in the world at 170 and I have to prove that. It’s not a matter of who, it’s a matter of when and where for me. Nate Marquardt is a very well-rounded fighter. I couldn’t tell you somewhere he stands out where he’s weak. He’s a veteran who’s been fighting for a long time. I’ve got to beat him to prove that I’m a contender for this title. Emotions are not going to win fights, action is. For me, I know I’ve got to be offensive regardless of who I fight. I’ve got to go in there and I’ve got to win. I don’t know if I’m the best welterweight in the world right now but I know I can beat anyone in the world and that’s all I need to know. I know I can beat Nate Marquardt.”

The UFC will return to Canada this summer, as a live event is set to take place in the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on June 15, 2013. The event, which is expected to serve as UFC 161 (a pay-per-view), will mark the organizations first appearance in the province of Manitoba.
