Bellator light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary will take on Tito Ortiz this Saturday at Bellator: ‘Dynamite.’ Also taking place that night will be a four-man, one-night tournament that will determine the next challenger for the light heavyweight champ. Whether he wins or loses on Saturday night, McGeary really hopes Phil Davis does not win the tournament.

Joel Tudor and Kelly Slater have two big things in common, they’re known for surfing and for BJJ. The difference is that Tudor is a BJJ black belt, while Slater, who hasn’t put as much time into the sport is a blue belt. Well, according to Tudor, he’s actually not a blue belt and shouldn’t be wearing one. A recent Instagram post showing Slater wearing a blue belt sparked a little bit of anger from Tudor.

The MMA world is still a buzz regarding Nick Diaz’s five year suspension and $165,000 fine, handed down by the Nevada State Athletic commission on Monday following his hearing for failing a UFC 183 drug test, which came back positive for marijuana. Although, his legal team argued that there were major inconsistencies with the three tests, the commission didn’t really bother with that argument and instead seemed to take offense with the fact that Diaz enacted the fifth amendment during the hearing and said they felt disrespected by the fighter, thus a five year suspension seemed adequate to them. The whole MMA community seems to be behind Diaz, including the biggest star, Ronda Rousey. However, former Bellator champ Joe Warren has a little bit of a different take on the situation. He admits that it’s terrible for Diaz, but also added that if you break the law, you have to deal with it.

This past Saturday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. rode off into the sunset after beating Andre Berto and said sayonara, retiring like he said he would. Mayweather goes out 49-0 and is the biggest name in boxing and one of the biggest in all of sports. Is he the greatest boxer of all time? That seems to be up for debate.

Former Strikeforce and UFC lightweight Josh Thomson is now with Bellator MMA and set to make his debut in his new promotion. There was a little controversy when he left the UFC, with the promotion saying they released him, while he insists he made the choice not to resign. Thomson recently spoke with Sherdog and attempted to clear some of that up and gave one of the simple reasons for why he picked Bellator.

Legendary surfer Kelly Slater recently appeared in a photo, wearing a gi and a blue belt. That’s when another surfer, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Joel Tudor chimed in and commented, saying that it wasn’t right for Slater to be wearing a blue belt when he hadn’t earned it.

Following a loss to Ryan Bader, former UFC light heavyweight Phil Davis says he was unable to come to terms with the UFC regarding a new contract and ultimately made the choice to sign with Bellator MMA. A move he now credits with reigniting his passion. The light heavyweight is gearing up for this Saturday’s Bellator ‘Dynamite’ event, where he’ll make his debut and be a part of the four man, one-night tournament to determine the next title challenger.

Watch out MMA fighters, here comes a ten time BJJ World Champion. Marcus Almeida, or “Buchecha” as he’s more commonly known, is ready to make the move over to mixed martial arts and plans to do so asap. Buchecha told Combate that after suffering a knee injury, which kept him out of this years ADCC, he decided that he’d been putting off the move for too long and will now look to start his training as soon as he’s all healed up.

The World Series of Fighting and Team Alpha Male fighter, Lance Palmer, will defend his featherweight title on Dec. 18 in Las Vegas, according to ‘The Party’ himself. Palmer broke the news on Thursday’s episode of Stud Radio, saying that he’s able to give the date and location, but does not know the opponent yet.

Back in May, Alexander Emelianenko was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and fined approx. $1000 USD. The former MMA fighter was found guilty and convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping (via withholding a passport) and forcing the use “narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances”. He was convicted of doing all this to Polina Stepanova, who was his substitute housekeeper. Now, The Simonovsky Court in Moscow will review his appeal and reconsider his conviction.

Elvis Mutapcic fights for that last option. Mutapcic, a middleweight fighter who holds wins over UFC fighters Sam Alvey, Cezar Ferreira and Zak Cummings, spoke with BJPENN.COM and said that he’s looking to get his shot in the UFC so he can prove himself amongst the best fighters in the world, something he feels more than ready to do. So for Mutapcic, it really isn’t about the money, something he says he could make a good amount of in a different organization, and has.

The UFC’s new sponsorship deal with Reebok has resulted in many headlines during the 2015 calendar year. Most of those headlines were of a negative nature, as many fighters complained that they were actually losing money because of the new uniform deal.

Last Saturday we saw what is supposedly Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s final fight. He took on Andre Berto and the fight went about the way many were expecting it to. Mayweather basically just coasted through the fight, dancing around the ring and avoiding everything from Berto.

Well, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is gone, supposedly. The boxer beat Andre Berto this past Saturday night and stuck to his word, retiring after the fight. Obviously only time will tell if it will stick.
