We know one person who’s extremely happy that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has retired. Legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya is happy to see Mayweather gone and hopes he never makes a comeback. That’s what he told esnewsreporting.com when they asked him if he thought, like many do, that the undefeated boxer would be making a comeback to get that record-breaking 50th win.

Chris Mintz is an amateur MMA fighter with a background in wrestling and is now being hailed as a hero. Mintz was present for the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, that took place on Thursday and witnesses say he acted as a hero, possibly saving a whole classroom of students while putting his life on the line.

Fedor Emelianenko shocked the MMA World when he announced that he had signed a contract to fight for former Pride FC boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara’s new Japanese promotion on New Year’s Eve. Shortly after news broke that “The Last Emperor” had in fact signed a deal to fight in Japan, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Fedor would be making a guaranteed $2.5 million for his December 31st fight against an opponent yet to be determined.

Today at the weigh-ins for Saturday’s Showtime Championship Boxing event, which will take place in Cincinnati, OH, both Adrien “The Problem” Broner and his opponent Khabib Allakhverdiev made weight for their title fight. The two will be fighting for the vacant WBA World light welterweight title. Broner stepped on the scale and came in at 138.5 pounds, while Allakhverdiev weighed 139. Broner seemed to be very drained and thin during the weigh-ins, while the former WBA World 140 pound champ, Allakhverdiev, seemed to be solid and much healthier at the weight.

Bellator MMA welterweight Paul Daley and GLORY kickboxing welterweight champion Nieky Holzken have been linked for a while. Currently, Holzken is waiting for his next challenger, which is supposed to be determined after the GLORY 25 MILAN Welterweight Contender Tournament. However, a fight between himself and Daley was rumored to be set up for the big Bellator ‘Dynamite,’ but ultimately did not happen.

The World Series of Fighting had to deal with a big situation recently, with the whole Jake Shields vs. Rousimar Palhares situation. After their welterweight title fight the promotion made the decision to strip Palhares of his belt and suspend him indefinitely. Palhares continually scratched at Shields’ eyes throughout the fight and then, when he locked up a fight ending submission he refused to release it even after Shields clearly tapped and after the referee tried to tell him the fight was over. So now, the promotion has a vacant welterweight belt. Many wondered if they would simply make the upcoming WW scrap between Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami a title fight. According to WSOF VP, Ali Abdelaziz, that won’t be the case.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has barely been retired and he’s already messing with fans about him coming back. Let’s be clear, there are very few people out there who actually believe that the undefeated boxer will stay retired for very long. He beat Andre Berto easily in his 49th win and most believe that he’ll eventually come back to get that coveted 50th win. If he were to come back and win one more, he would break Rocky Mariciano’s record.

Everyone and their mother has come out in support of UFC fighter Nick Diaz following his controversial five-year suspension, handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. There’s a White House Petition still going around, steadily gaining more votes by the day, and then there are fighters who have decided to boycott Nevada, saying that they will not fight there because of the ruling.

This past Friday, at Bellator 143, bantamweights Joe Warren and LC Davis fought in the night’s main event to determine the number one contender and the next time challenger. It was Warren, the former champ, who came out on top after three rounds of grinding grappling work. He got Davis down early and often and for the most part kept him there. However, pretty early on in the fight Davis suffered an eye poke from Warren. He took the usual time out and the referee continued to ask him if he was fine. It was noticeably red, but he said he could see and everything was good, so they continued to fight.

Cris Cyborg has recently been calling for year-round testing so that she can prove to everyone, including UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, that she’s clean so they can stop using that excuse for why she shouldn’t fight the undefeated champ. Rousey has had no issues slamming the Invicta FC featherweight champ for testing positive for PEDs in the past, even though all her tests since then have been clean.
