ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee believes that having the hometown advantage will play a huge factor when she tries to become the first two-division women’s world champion in history this November.
Lee is scheduled to challenge ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan for the strawweight strap in the main event of ONE: HEART OF THE LION at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 9 November.
The 22-year-old Singaporean sensation is more than motivated to put her name in history books as she knows that the hometown crowd will be behind her in the scheduled five-round championship clash against Xiong.
“To make history is already fulfilling as an athlete, but to do it in front of your hometown crowd is beyond special. I’ll do my best to capture the ONE Women’s Strawweight World Title. I want my fans to be proud of me,” Lee said.
Lee has competed in Singapore in five of her nine matches as a pro, disclosing that she draws inspiration and motivation from the cheers of her hometown fans. Although she shuffles back and forth between Singapore and Hawaii, Lee has firm roots planted in “The Lion City.”
“Singapore has been very good to me,” she says. “I feel very motivated every time I hear the crowd cheering and chanting my name. The feeling is priceless, and it gives me added strength both physically and mentally. I know that Xiong is a great champion, but I’m very motivated heading to this match. I won’t let my fans down.”
Lee, who successfully defended her ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title three times before deciding to challenge Xiong for the strawweight crown expects that she needs to squeeze herself through the eye of a needle to beat her Chinese opponent.
“She’s very athletic and strong,” she said. “I know that this won’t be an easy task, but my team and I have a perfect game plan for this fight. I’m in the best shape of my life, and with the crowd behind me, expect the best Angela Lee on November 9.”
Do you think Angela Lee can capture a second title at ONE: HEART OF THE LION this November 9?
