Conor McGregor brings in BJJ stud in preparation for rematch with Nate Diaz

Conor McGregor is busy working on his technique ahead of his rematch with Nate Diaz set for UFC 202. McGregor has been “obsessed” with getting another crack at Diaz and has brought in Brazilian jiu-jitsu stud Dillon Danis to help prepare for his rematch. Danis is a black belt under Marcelo Garcia and is decorated in competitive BJJ, having won the world championships and Abu Dhabi World Pro Champion in the brown belt division.

When the first reports surfaced that a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was in the works, many people thought it was a joke. Although McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh says that the bout between the two superstars from different sports is put on hold with McGregor set to rematch Nate Diaz at UFC 202, he believes the fight with Mayweather will take place at some point.

Since winning the UFC featherweight championship back in December, Conor McGregor went up to welterweight for a UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz, which was initially supposed to be a lightweight title fight with Rafael dos Anjos. McGregor lost the fight, and then was rebooked to fight Diaz at UFC 200, however he was pulled from the card after refusing to fulfill his media obligations for the event. Now, with Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo set for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 200, and McGregor vs. Diaz II set for UFC 202, many are wondering if McGregor will ever go back down to featherweight to defend his title.

During Saturday night’s UFC 199 pay-per-view card in Los Angeles it was announced that a rematch between current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and perennial lightweight contender Nate Diaz had been booked to headline August’s UFC 202 event in Las Vegas. Despite coming out victorious in their first encounter at UFC 196, Nate Diaz has been labelled the early underdog in his rematch with McGregor, this according to MMAOddsBreaker:

During the UFC 199 broadcast it was officially announced that Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 2 would be going down at UFC 202 on August 20th. This came after much back & forth regarding the bout. With the UFC brass looking to book the bout due to McGregor’s ‘obsession’ with the fight. Following that it looked as though the fight wouldn’t get booked.

One of the topics was about the frustration White has had in putting the rematch together for the Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor rematch, with the bulk of the frustration coming from the negotiations on Diaz’s terms for the fight when they had lunch in Stockton two weeks ago.

A rematch with Nate Diaz is the fight Conor McGregor wants the most at this point. “The Notorious” wants their second meeting under the same rules and conditions as their initial bout at UFC 196, which took place back in March where Diaz was able to submit McGregor in the second round. McGregor wants the fight, however, Diaz is holding his position to make sure he gets his fair share of the prize money that the fight will bring in for the UFC and for McGregor.

At UFC 194, Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo finally had their fight for the UFC featherweight championship. The fight lasted just 13 seconds, with McGregor putting the featherweight champion to sleep with a left hand in the first exchange of the fight. Rather than defending his belt, McGregor went up for what was supposed to be a lightweight title fight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196. Unfortunately, dos Anjos withdrew from the fight with a broken foot. Nate Diaz then stepped in on short notice to fight McGregor, handing him the first loss of his UFC career.

The seemingly invincible McGregor appeared unable to find his range, and ultimately ended up gassing in the 2nd round, resulting in Diaz landing a 1-2 combination that rocked McGregor, which led to a desperation takedown that quickly saw Diaz secure a rear naked choke, and win the fight.
