Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is still not happy that the UFC decided to put Conor McGregor in a welterweight rematch against Nate Diaz at July’s UFC 200 event. Aldo, who had been campaigning for a rematch with McGregor after suffering a shocking 13-second defeat to the Irishman in December, will now rematch Frankie Edgar for the UFC’s interim featherweight title on July 9.

Earlier this week it was announced by the UFC that Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz would have their highly anticipated welterweight rematch at UFC 200. In addition it was announced that Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo would be competing for the interim featherweight championship. Following McGregor’s loss to Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 196, McGregor stated that he would likely go back down to featherweight to defend his championship. This lead to much confusion when the UFC booked McGregor vs. Diaz II at UFC 200, rather than a featherweight title defense for McGregor.

The MMA community lost their minds when Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of the scheduled superfight with Conor McGregor back in February. Nate Diaz then shook things up when he was announced as the late-replacement for dos Anjos and further upset a lot of people when he submitted McGregor at UFC 196. Now Diaz and McGregor will face off in a non-title welterweight rematch at the historic UFC 200 event in July. While initial reports were released that the two were going to be fighting at UFC 200 in the welterweight rematch, Diaz had said that he wanted the fight at 155 so that Conor McGregor would not have any excuses if he lost the rematch.

After Conor McGregor’s UFC 196 loss to Nate Diaz last month, the featherweight champ stated that his next move was to go back down to featherweight to defend his championship belt. Fast forward several weeks and the UFC was announcing McGregor vs. Diaz II for the main event of UFC 200 on July 9th. In addition to McGregor vs. Diaz II, the UFC also announced that Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar would be fighting for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 200, leading many to question why McGregor didn’t go through with his plans to defend his featherweight championship.

BJPENN.com spoke with Nate Diaz’s boxing coach Richard Perez earlier this week about a number of topics regarding the “Stockton Sluggers” rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 200. One of those topics regarded the comments Perez had made in the lead up to UFC 196, in which he insinuated that Conor McGregor had been using steroids. We asked Perez if he now, following the announcement that every UFC 196 competitor passes their respective drug tests, had any regrets about the verbal shots he made towards McGregor:

UFC President Dana White spoke with ESPN earlier tonight where he discussed the UFC’s reasoning behind booking Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor and Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo rematches to headline July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dana White assured ESPN and the millions of fans watching that no matter what the outcome is in the UFC 200 main event, Conor McGregor will in fact fight the winner of the Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo rematch at an event later this year (2016). At UFC 196, Nate Diaz picked up the biggest win over his MMA career as he submitted Conor McGregor in the 2nd round of their welterweight scrap. Following the fight, McGregor attributed the loss to an ‘inefficient use of energy,’ something teammate Gunnar Nelson doesn’t believe will happen in a potential rematch. While earlier this month it was reported that the UFC had issued contracts to both fighters for a welterweight rematch at UFC 200, nothing has been set in stone. While there has been much speculation as to whether or not Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor will meet inside the Octagon once again, it was revealed earlier this month that the UFC has reportedly issued contracts to both fighters for a welterweight rematch at UFC 200. With that being said, leaked footage from Nate Diaz’s recent appearance on Fox Sports shows Diaz explaining to Kenny Florian and Michael Bisping that he wants the rematch at lightweight so McGregor has no excuses this time.

Everyone seems to want to get their hands on the UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. While the hopefuls in the UFC featherweight division are anxious to get a chance to take the belt from McGregor and strap it around their own waist, others in different weight classes have also volunteered themselves to take on the superstar from Ireland. As of now, all reports are indicating that Nate Diaz will rematch Conor McGregor in a non-title welterweight bout. Ariel Helwani said earlier this week, “And make no mistake about it, the reason that this fight is happening at 170-pounds is because, to be frank, Conor Mcgregor is a bit of a wild man. “He wants, he is obsessed with the idea that he lost to Nate Diaz at 170-pounds. He feels like he should have won and he wants the same circumstances, same rules, same stipulations. He wants to do it again and he wants to prove that he is the better man.”
