It is hard to believe that UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler’s next title defense against Carlos Condit could be more bloody than his last, but all signs point to it being a violent one.
Lawler’s last title defense took place at UFC 189 against Rory MacDonald in an all out war where both athletes left it all in the octagon that night. Both men shed an unbelievable amount of blood and sported some of the nastiest cuts and bruises in recent memory, but fought for twenty-one minutes before a victor was decided. MacDonald was on his way to a decision victory and Lawler knew he had to put it away in the final round, so he turned up his volume of strikes to a level where a fatigued MacDonald couldn’t defend and the referee was forced to step in.
It was one of the most amazing title defenses in recent memory, but Lawler is looking to avoid any bloodbaths like that ever again! Unfortunately for him, he will be facing one of the scrappiest welterweights in Carlos Condit. Check out what the champion had to say about his fight with MacDonald, his thumb injury and his upcoming defense against Condit in the video above!
