“This is the biggest fight of my career. I’m going to be the big underdog. I always am the underdog. Everyone writes me off. Here’s this guy, he looks overweight, he’s got a stomach; that’s fine with me. I’m confident in myself. This upcoming fight is a huge fight for me. To be going against a guy fifth in the world and going to Brazil to fight him in his hometown, this could really kick my career into high gear.”

Mike Russow is currently riding an eleven fight win streak and knows that this is the fight that can elevate his stock in the organization. With victories over John-Olav Einemo, Jon Madsen and Todd Duffee, it’s evident that Russow belongs in the octagon. However, just based on his appearance alone fans are quick to discredit the notion that Russow deserves to be in the octagon with the upper echelon of fighters; even the bookies are labeling him as a +400 underdog. Despite riding an impressive streak, Russow is not letting the success get to his head and is not overlooking his opponent whatsoever.

Mike Russow will be going toe-to-toe with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 147. The card is headlined by Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva and it will take place on June 23rd in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
