Velasquez: Jones has a lot to do at 205

By BJPENN.COM News - June 2, 2014

Back in November lightheavyweight kingpin Jon Jones told mmajunkie.com that he had his sighs set on a superfight with heavyweight kingpin Cain Velasquez.

Velasquez caught up with MMAJunkie to talk about a potential matchup between himself and Bones.

“He has a lot of work to do in his division right now. He had Glover (Teixeira), and now he has ‘DC’ and then he has (Alexander) Gustafsson also. I just think that’s in the present moment right now because he has a lot of opponents coming up.”

At UFC 173, Daniel Cormier decimated Dan Henderson to earn himself a shot at the winner of Gustafsson vs. Jones. Velasquez had the following to say of his 15-0 teammate Cormier.

“He’s ready for this. It’s his time. Jon Jones has that long reach, which is going to make things difficult. He throws those kicks and a lot of punches. His elbows are tough as well, but I think Cormier just has what it takes to win.”
