Ronaldo Souza def. Gegard Mousasi by way of Submission (Guillotine) 4:30 of Round 3
Gegard Mousasi posed no threat to the elite skills of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza tonight. Souza wrapped things up in the third round with a tight guillotine, capping off an exciting evening of fights.
Gegard Mousasi was unable to feel out his opponent and find a comfortable striking distance due to the fact that there WAS no distance between them. Jacare was quick to grapple and took Mousasi down to the mat after gaining double underhooks. Jacare would transition at will but was unable to finish off his submission attempts. He tallied up a decent amount of top control time and did just enough to warrant staying on the ground.
This was the format of each round until Jacare finally trapped him with a guillotine in the third round.
After a scramble, Mousasi’s was sitting on his bum with his back against the fencing. He was slumped forward and Jacare jumped on his neck for a guillotine attempt. Mousasi was drained of energy and his back was literally against the wall; he had nowhere to go. Jacare wrapped his legs around the body of Mousasi and torqued the choke. Mousasi was forced to submit and Herb Dean waved the fight off.
