Gunnar Nelson continued his winning streak tonight with a win against Zak Cummings. This bout was the co-main event of the evening and aired exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
Nelson put on a smart, methodical performance in the octagon today. Cummings put the pressure on him in the first round with some big shots, but Nelson weathered the storm and waited for his opportunity to strike.
Cummings shot for a takedown attempt in the second round and Nelson countered it with a guillotine attempt. Cummings defended by dropping belly-first on the mat and Nelson proceeded to transition and take his opponent’s back. Nelson wrapped his legs around the stomach and ribs of Cummings and once the body-triangle was locked on it was downhill for Cummings.
Nelson picked his shots and peppered Cummings with hooks which eventually opened up his neck. Nelson dove on the rear-naked-choke attempt and Cummings had no other choice but to tap out.
