Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira stepped into the octagon tonight to showcase what featherweights were all about, but the bout was cut short when Oliveira suffered an injury.
Grappling expert Oliveira shot for a takedown to take the fight to the ground, but Holloway fought off the attempt with ease. In what seemed like a stuffed takedown was later revealed to be an abandoned attempt from Oliveira who grabbed on to his shoulder and neck as he made it back to his feet. He slowly stumbled backwards and Holloway charged at him to finish the fight, but he could tell Oliveira was in pain. Holloway landed two soft shots before being waved away by the referee who waved the fight due to an injury.
Jon Anik later mentioned that Oliveira may have had a pinched nerve. As concerned as Holloway was about Oliveira’s health, it was clear he was excited to pick up his seventh win in a row. After the fight, he proceeded to call out Frankie Edgar for a fight in Hawaii!
Max Holloway def. Charles Oliveira by way of TKO (Injury) 1:39 of Round 1
