This bout was being hyped as the likely winner of “Fight of the Night” for “UFC 185” before the event started, but Hendricks threw Brown a curveball and wrestled his way to a victory.
Hendricks landed a total of seven takedowns in the fight with six of them coming in just the first two rounds. Brown tried his hardest to get Hendricks to fight his style, but Hendricks was too concentrated on keeping the #1 Contender moniker he’s earned in the rankings.
Despite having the ability to take Brown down at will and outstriking him on the feet, Hendricks mentioned after the bout that he was frustrated with his performance. He wanted to finish Brown and he mentioned that something was missing, and he would figure it out in the six month layover leading up to his expected UFC Welterweight Championship shot.
Johny Hendricks def. Matt Brown by way of Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
