Gilbert Burns remains undefeated in his mixed martial arts career! He locked up tonight’s victory with only three seconds remaining in the first round.
The UFC Fight Pass Preliminary portion of “UFC 179” concluded with a lightweight bout between jiu-jitsu ace Gilbert Burns and Christo Giagos. The bout was closely contested but once it went to the canvas, you could tell Burns had the clear cut advantage. He worked for a rear naked choke but Giagos was able to dump him off which brought the action back to the mat.
Burns abandoned the choke and locked in an armbar. Most combatants’ stomachs were down which gave Burns all the momentum and essentially trapped Giagos, giving him nowhere to go. Giagos was forced to tap out and clutched his arm after Burns was awarded the victory.
