UFC 172 Medical Suspensions Report: Glover, Benavidez, More Out With Indefinite Terms

Last month’s UFC 172 saw Jon Jones defend his UFC light-heavyweight title for a record seventh time.

As a result of that dominance, his latest opponent, Glover Teixeira has been benched by the Maryland State Athletic Commission for an indefinite period for excessive head blows and lacerations.

Several other fighter’s on the April 26 fight card received lengthy suspensions, including, Joseph Benavidez, Takanori Gomi, and Luke Rockhold.

The full list as as follows:

Glover Teixeira: Indefinite medical suspension (60-day minimum/excessive head blows and laceration) – Must be examined by, and cleared by, an orthopedic surgeon.
Phil Davis: suspended for 30 days for laceration.
Luke Rockhold: Indefinite medical suspension – must have right foot examined by, and cleared by, an orthopedic surgeon.
Yancy Medeiros: 30-day medical suspension (choke-out/loss of consciousness).
Andre Fili: 14-day medical suspension (per doctor’s recommendation).
Tim Elliott: 14-day medical suspension (per doctor’s recommendation).
Joseph Benavidez: Indefinite medical suspension – must have both knees examined by, and cleared by, an orthopedic surgeon.
Isaac Vallie-Flagg: Indefinite medical suspension (60-day minimum/laceration) – must be examined by, and cleared by, a physician.
Takanori Gomi: Indefinite medical suspension – must have right hand examined by, and cleared by, an orthopedic surgeon.
Charlie Brenneman: 60-Day medical suspension (KO – concussion with loss of consciousness).
Patrick Williams: Indefinite medical suspension (120-day minimum per doctor’s recommendation) – must have right eye examined by, and cleared by, an ophthalmologist. Must have left foot and left ankle examined by, and cleared by, a physician.
Chris Beal: Indefinite medical suspension — must have left knee and right hand examined by, and cleared by, an orthopedic surgeon.
