Chad Mendes recently had another crack at the UFC featherweight championship at UFC 179 when he fought Jose Aldo in Brazil.

The bout went the full 5-rounds with Aldo capturing a unanimous decision win to retain the featherweight strap, and his place as the only UFC featherweight champion in UFC history.

Following that bout, Mendes was booked to fight Ricardo Lamas on April 4th at “UFC Fight Night: Virginia”. Whereas Aldo on the other hand, will meet Conor McGregor at UFC 189 on July 11th in Vegas.

Mendes gave his thoughts on that bout, and why he wants McGregor to defeat Aldo.

“Ultimately, in my best interest, I want Conor to win. This puts me right back in line for a title shot, gets me back in there to fight a new opponent for the title. But I have this thing with Aldo. There’s something to be said about two guys who just get in there and beat the crap out of each other for 25 minutes straight. There’s some kind of weird thing, like a bond or something that’s made.”

“I want to be the guy to beat him. I think it’s in my best interest for Conor to win, but part of me wants Aldo to win.”
